I watched as the wound on my hand stopped bubbling and reformed back into a claw.
Flexing the claw, I'm relieved to see that I could heal from wounds like that pretty quickly.
But I was still in trouble.
I did have a plan to escape should I start to get overwhelmed, but now, my only choice right now was to attack.
The moment I went for Phoebe, Briar would intercept me and repel my attack. That's if I could get in close at all with their long-range attacks.
If I had any long range of my own, I didn't know it which only gave me the close-range engagements. I'd be hurting my own self, though, as their weapons hurt me as well.
Wait a minute. If I didn't have a long-range attack, I could just make my own.
Briar POV:
I watch as the demon suddenly darts into the house on the right, jumping through the window.
What a cunning demon we're dealing with.
"He intends on hiding until Phoebes spell runs out. Everyone, drive it out of the house. I'll protect her and call out wherever the demon is."
Everyone begins their chants in preparation of the upcoming assault, as I intently watch the house for any movements within from the demon.
Despite some rummaging, it makes no attempt at leaving.
Within seconds, they finish their chants, making me crack a smile with pride at how efficient their spellcasting was.
At the end of Jacob's cross, a ball of radiant light forms, reflecting a rainbow off its surface.
Catherine's cross glows with a rainbow, I nod as I see she went for the light ray spell.
Reuben also chose Jacob's light ball spell as a ball of light forms at the end of his cross.
They first fire off multiple orbs in the nearby houses, causing repeated flashes of light in the house.
After a couple of seconds, they stop destroying the houses on either side of the one where the demon was.
Breathing heavily, they turn their crosses to the building where the demon was.
They both manage to shoot off three orbs into the building that fly into the house with a resounding boom as they both drop to their knees in exhaustion.
I commend them both that they're able to shoot that many orbs from the spell but focus on the house for any movement from the demon.
The building remains silent, as the door is barely on its hinges and everything within the house is burnt from the boy's attack.
Sudden movement catches my attention as I see the huge frame of the demon jumping from the second story.
Holding back a smirk that we made him desperate enough to provoke an attack from him, I raise my mace, swinging it out in front of me.
My mace connects and I can see his momentum stop.
Clang!
The sound of metal hitting metal confuses me, as I was expecting a cry of pain.
Looking down, I see he's wielding kitchen knives!
The demon capitalizes on my moment of shock and swings with his second knife in his left hand.
Snapping back into focus, I apply pressure on my mace, knocking him back a bit as I bring the hilt of my mace up to meet his second attack.
Jacob and Reuben are still recovering, but Catherine is still waiting patiently with her spell for me to disengage to avoid hitting me.
I jab towards the creature, making it step back as I also jump back, allowing everyone to cast their spells.
A small beam of light shines past me, piercing through the stomach of the demon from Catherine's spell.
As the ray of light goes through the demon, it' face contours with pain and I know that we got the lethal blow on the demon, and it's just a matter of questioning it and banishing it now.
I take a step forward, then freeze as I look at the demon eyes. There isn't the least bit of defeat in his yellow glow through its mask.
I tense, putting my guard back up as a chill travel through my body as I get the feeling that this battle has only just begun.
My thoughts get confirmed as the demon roars, charging towards me faster than it moved before.
It reaches me in seconds, swinging both its weapons madly.
Maneuvering my mace, I block its sloppy swings with a weapon, but the sheer force behind each hit pushes me back, sending shockwaves through my arms.
Jacob and Reuben show signs of recovering from overusing their spell.
Looking to provide assistance to me, Catherine moves to my right, firing three light rays off into the demon.
Her spells tear through the body of the demon, but it only enrages him more as he reengages with me.
Raising both knives, he swings downwards.
Knowing the strength it possesses, I use both hands to block its attack with the mace.
Our weapons collide and the force behind its attack almost make my knees buckle, but I persevere. Struggling against its embrace, I look directly into my enemies face to see it already smiling face with a wider one. It opens its mouth to reveal a deadly secret. All I can do is manage to move my head as a knife sail past it.
"Phoebe, look out!" Remembering who is directly behind me.
I watch as the knife travels uncontested and sink into Phoebes forehead, making her head cock back from the force.
Her eyes return to normal as they roll to the back of her head as she falls to the ground, lifeless.
Shocked at the cunning behind this demon, I no longer feel any pressure at the end of my mace as a black blur rush past me towards Phoebes dead body.
The demon only goes to where Phoebe's body is, ignoring everything else as it climbs a house on the other side of the street.
I watch curiously as it raises its hands to its mouth as if eating something.
The holes in the demon begin to close save for the one in the center of its chest and I can sense the mana on the creature rise as well.
My mind processes what just happened, and dread fills me as I refuse to believe what I'm currently thinking.
'Did that demon just eat Phoebe's soul and get stronger?'

Since I'm working on three different books, but mostly focusing on this one and my Overwatch fanfic, it will have the same posting schedule as the other book.
That will be Sunday, Wednesday, and Saturday at whatever time I wake up on those days.
