Chapter 1 - Prologue

"You stand accused of the brutal murders of your recent victim, Natalie, along with seven other brutal murders. You face the following charges, murder in the first degree, kidnapping.... "The judge goes on but the accused tunes him out.

Natalie. That was her name. He knew absolutely nothing about her but even if he did, nothing would change her fate. If he could go back into the past and change anything, he still would not change that she would die every time.

"How do you plea?" The judge asks, while pushing up his glasses that lay crooked on his nose, looking sternly at the accused. The lawyer glances at his client and hesitates.

He remembers when he got the moment to confide with his client and he made the mistake of asking his client to be honest with him. His client told him everything. What he did, why he did it, where to find the other bodies, who was next, he left out nothing.

He looked at the man next to him who was wearing an orange jumpsuit who had his arms and legs chained to the table. As a defense attorney, he was a wide advocate of the 'Innocent until proven guilty' slogan that the system claimed.

But as he knew the guiltiness of his client, he was glad he was in chains. Nevertheless, he had a job to do.

"Not guilty your honor." He solemnly replies. The judge shakes his head in disbelief.

What was this guy thinking? With the evidence presented, everyone knew this guy was guilty. By his smug face, he was practically shouting he did it. The court proceeds with the Prosecutor opening statement.

Knowing he had this in the bag, he starts strongly. He appeals to the jury, who listen to him attentively. As he mentions the deceased girl, her parents start to cry in the stands behind, and evil glances are shot in the direction of the murder, who couldn't care less.

The Prosecutor didn't need to say much on his opening statement, because he knew the first two pieces of evidence would condemn him.

Sitting down, all eyes turned to the defense attorney, waiting to hear what his defense for this scum was.

The defense attorney saw all the evidence prior to this case, so he knew how fucked this guy was. He promised this guy he would try to defend him, although the guy looked as if he didn't care, he was a man of his word.

His only defense for actions such as these was the redundant, insanity plea. Of course, no one is shocked as he tries to claim the clients mental instability lead to his unorthodox actions.

He keeps it short as well because there is a slim chance that anyone is going to believe it, but it was worth a try.

The prosecutor stands, and takes the lead, painting the picture of who Natalie was as the murderer listens as well. She was a college student, looking to be a nurse because she loved helping her grandmother who required assistance on a daily basis.

She studied hard and was working two jobs to afford the college of her dreams, which accepted her. Furthermore, she volunteered at the local soup kitchens regularly to make a difference.

Hearing this, even her murderer was impressed with how much she was doing for the community. She was really going to make a difference in the world, if she didn't make one simple mistake.

Her mistake wasn't thinking that he was a homeless man and offered to pay for his meal. It wasn't the fact that he hated how nice she was being. No, her fate was decided the moment she walked into the same coffee shop as him, and he laid eyes on her.

Her personality wasn't the factor in her death, it was actually her looks that pissed him off the most. Her short brown hair and brown eyes were a reminder to one of the two people he hated on this planet. She was a stark reminder of his mother.

The prosecutor was a smart man and easily saw that he held a grudge against anyone who resembled his parents. Each of his victims had qualities of either his dad or his mother. They did their research, showing how each parent abused him, doing horrendous things and even making him do morally questionable acts at a young age.

Using this information, the prosecutor set a clear picture of motive for the court. There was more than enough proof that he was the culprit. He literally dragged her into the alley next door and began to stab her to death. Her dying cries of help attracted the attention of pedestrians, who were too late to help her.

There was also a camera in the alley that clearly showed his face. The police response time was surprisingly quick, but he offered no resistance to getting arrested. He only wanted her dead, everyone else was just unimportant.

The defense attorney saw his opportunity and tried to claim that because of his upbringing and environment, he wasn't fundamentally the same as normal people. He developed tendencies to hurt things due to his parents.

Any person that he encountered triggered his uncontrollable rage, and he would do what he was taught by them, kill. The jury begins to show signs of pity. It was undeniable, that even though it is morally wrong, he would be led to do these things because he was taught this was the right thing to do.

Seeing the pity on their faces, the defense began to feel elated that he had a chance at winning. To seal the deal, he called the accused to the stand. He was confident with how the guy acted, that he actually didn't know that want he did was wrong. But, that was a mistake on his part.

"Natalie is a nice name. She was a charming person. Which is why I it's only fair that I made her end quicker than the rest. They were rude, so I made them last for weeks before I put them down. Ah yes, I can remember their cries and pleading. It only fueled me more."

The courtroom was silent at his words. The defense had only asked the guy what his name was before he went on a rant confessing literally everything. Knowing that he just lost the case, the lawyer sits down, not saying another word as the murderers' words echo through his mind.

The prosecutor didn't need to ask any questions, and honestly, was a bit shaken from what he said. Both parties rest their cases, and closing statements are made. The defense offered no closing statement, as this case was all but lost for him.

The jury walks into their room to debate, then within a couple of minutes, they walk back out.

"On seven counts of first-degree murder, we find the defendant, guilty."

Cries of joy comes from the families from multiple victims, but the murder didn't care. Was he guilty? Definitely.

The judge turns to him, "As such, the court will sentence you to the death penalty. May God have mercy on your soul. This court is dismissed." The judges' words echo through the murderer's head, as the defense lawyer looks at him with pity. He had done his part and actually put up a fight for the man who no doubt deserved the judgement.

The now convicted murderer decided to mess with the court. He began to freak out, struggling to break free from his cuffs.

As three officers rushed to subdue him, he started to enjoy himself and decided to turn it up a notch. He begins scream at the top of his lungs, swearing profanities. The officers manage to get him in the hallway towards the court jail, but his screams continue to echo through the court, unnerving everyone who hears it.
