Chapter 17 - The Divine Tower Trial (P3)- Outclassed

"Now that we've got you nice and relaxed, My name is Mu Lima, I am a 4th year Elite student of the Interstellar academy and I'm ranked 4th on the Interstellar ranking list", the voice introduced itself without letting Sora move a muscle to check.

Sora was compelled to believe it for 2 reasons; Firstly, only 4th-year Elite students are profound mages, you literally could not be called an Elite student if you weren't one, and to become one you need all your elements at the perfected advanced level and if this guy had Ice, Sora wasn't willing to test out whatever else he had. Secondly; Anyone would tell you for free that in the whole school Mu Lima was the only student to ever exist within the academy who had awakened the Black Ice of death. The only special Ice awakening on the level of the 5 great flames.

"Alright then... what exactly do you want from me; I fail to Imagine you would need someone like me for anything", Sora said aloud, more to himself than his apparent assailant. "Don't think too deeply about it, I'm in a good mood and have a proposition that would benefit us mutually", the assailant said in an unhurried tone. Sora frowned as he looked down at the Ice that threatened to tear his head off.

"The second years, deal with the second years for me and I will guarantee that you will make it to the final 5", Mu Lima offered plain and simply, "Don't overthink it, I offered the same thing to all promising mages in the first year and the bunch you just laid out were some of the better ones... I could easily beat them all but I frankly cannot be asked to go out of my way to deal with them", Lima said lackadaisically, "The 1st or second year with the most racked-up eliminations will be guaranteed a top 5 place".

Sora was juggling the thought of catching this guy off guard with a spark, but it wasn't worth it, at the end of the day even If he caught him with a surprise spark, he wasn't even remotely guaranteed to beat him. Frankly, his only chance was to apply precision casting to his full-powered spark spell with the added purple effect.

Sora sighed and calmed himself, he instantly cast a precise Basic sun-fire fireball and fired it at the ground instantly melting the Ice around him away and creating a thick Hail cloud from the melted Ice. Mu Lima frowned in disappointment. Sora fired three more of the same fireballs at Lima immediately after the cloud formed and Lima countered by shooting out 4 corrosive balls at the Ice cloud.

To Lima's surprise, the fireballs broke through 3 of his perfect corrosive balls; the ember streaks melted the acid away quickly, and now the spell's full force was coming at him, but he didn't know that. Lima cast perfect Ice spread to create a protective dome around himself assuming the now 'weakened' fireballs would be ineffective. To his surprise not only was his assumption wrong but he received the full force of a perfect fireball despite this only being a basic one.

Lima's Ice Dome was easily overpowered and he was hit with the full force but didn't even flinch at it, the blast of the spell hit him but made no physical contact hitting some sort of invisible barrier. "Impressive... with guts and firepower like that you promise to be a formidable ally in the future... I look forward to your growth Little freshman", Lima said with a faint smile before a faint silver aura covered his body and he began floating in the air.

Lima watched Sora roll out of his cover, channelled a fireball through the dagger he had stolen, and launch a fire slash at the flying Lima. Lima sighed and the fire slash exploded halfway to him. Sora launched 7 more fire slashes at Lima Hoping to overwhelm his space magic. "Give it up", Lima ordered as Sora's fire slashes suddenly turned and slashed the ground creating massive explosions on the ground beneath him.

Sora was suddenly hit with an invisible force that sent him through the blaze and made him crash into the trees behind Lima. Sora used the shield to dullen the impact but still felt a crippling numbness in his right arm as he dropped on his chest coughing lightly as he stared at Lima's floating back. Lima turned mid-air and stopped to look at Sora's struggling form, "You put up a respectable fight believe it or not... Now rest well, our battle will be remembered fondly", Lima said as he pointed a finger at Sora.

Lima tucked his finger and flicked the air randomly, as a result, Sora was struck head-on by yet another invisible force and crashed into the tree behind him on his back, Sora coughed a mouthful of blood and fell on his face just barely missing the red puddle he had made. Sora was far from unconscious, but his body was screaming for rest, a desire he had no intention of listening to.

Lima sighed and turned around, getting ready to fly off. As he did though he was struck in the middle of his spine by a precision Purple basic spark. The spell hit cleanly and shocked Lima full force, blasting him out of the sky; Despite landing on his feet safely, Lima stumbled and dropped to a knee not being able to balance himself and cast magic. Sora got up and aimed another precise purple basic spark at Lima which didn't connect this time. An invisible force struck Sora from behind launching him at Lima getting struck by the same force to stop and crash face first right in front of Lima.

"You're starting to get on my nerves kid", Lima warned with an annoyed grimace, "I will admit I'm Interested in whatever trick you're using to cast two elements despite being a basic mage but you're annoyingly persistent", Lima said as he began crushing Sora into the ground with the sheer force of his spell. Sora gritted his teeth and cast consecutive fireballs to counter the downward force crushing him. Sora fired 10 consecutive fireballs on both hands before he gathered enough force to push himself back to his feet, glaring daggers at Lima the whole way up. "The bastard sure is persistent I'll give him that", Lima muttered with a hint of respect in his tone, it was momentary but Lima decided to give Sora a proper send of, he didn't know many students that would face him head-on with the intent of winning, the fact that this guy did was worthy of his respect.

He was going to give him a proper send-off; The pressure surrounding Sora was released as Lima resolved to use the final of his 4 elements as a Profound mage; A massive ball of fire condensed at Lima's palm as he shot a massive beam of fire at Sora, Sora in a last-minute gamble, cast his golden precision basic fireball on all his right hands fingers and his purple precision basic spark on all his left hand's fingers; he forcefully merged them on his respective palms then brought both spells together before him, shooting it back at the Profound Fire Magic spell that Lima had just cast.

A massive explosion rose as both Mages disappeared in the sheer brilliance of the fanfare and destruction their clash created, in the end though, Lima's spell won over and created a Kilometre-long, 100-metre-wide and 10-foot-deep trench of scorched earth before him. At the very end of that Trench lay Sora, most of his uniform was scorched and he had deep burns all over but he was still in it. At the last moment, he made consecutive fire slashes to create a small gap and focused his shield on that gap to survive the blast, frankly, he still had mana but he had less than 10 spells in the tank on top of having broken weapons and a heavily injured body.

Despite his otherwise pathetic state, Sora was smiling; He had done it; he had fought a Profound mage head-on and not only didn't surrender but fought back, even to the point that he could still keep fighting. "Take that you arrogant shit face, When I'm stronger I'll make sure I take you on an equal playing field", Sora muttered as he groaned, he slowly sat up and grunted as he rose to his feet. He dusted himself off and slowly limped towards the edge of the trench.

He took 2 pieces of his now shattered shield and stabbed into the wall at different points, he used them to claw his way out of the trench and walked out towards the thick forestry. Two minutes after Sora left, Lima flew over to the end of the trench and landed at the end; he saw the shield and noticed a few missing pieces, he then walked to the wall of the trench and saw the holes Sora made a chuckled faintly, "That arrogant bastard is actually quite interesting... I'll watch how far this one goes", Lima said as he began flying back the way he came.
