Chapter 17 - Chapter 15: The First Battle- Power Rising

The angry voice yelled," Xyverinos, what makes you think you can leave!"

Giving Elder Storm a stern look,' What makes her think you control me? I have gotten news that one of the wyverns/dragons I am close to will die!'

Looking back at her, I glared and, in a much louder voice signaling my rage," You think you can tell me what to do? Elder Storm. Let me introduce you to my adoptive family, Allit, Zunda, and Lemraes."

Allit spoke seriously," Just a heads up, we were only supposed to scout ahead, and if Xyv was out, capture him. The actual army is on its way from the west."

Graveonth growled," Great, so Xyv, what will we do."

More wingbeats sounded as I looked at the Haven to see roughly two hundred wyverns and dragons. Shaking my head, I looked towards the west, and from here, I could hear the strange machines as I asked," Allit, what kind of vehicles do they have?"

She was silent," Planes, Helicopters, Dragon/Wyvern Cage machines. Net launchers, Tanks, and Trucks. Their numbers are in the twenty thousand range."

Sighing, I muttered," I finally learn the names of the machines they use before a battle."

My father laughed as I glanced at them and asked," Elder Storm, how many plasma and lightning dragons and wyverns are here now."

She was quiet," Only fifteen."

Smirking, I grinned," That is enough. I'm just curious: Can you redirect plasma and electricity into the ground? Graveonth and your father, Grinag, is that possible to do."

Graveonth looked at his father as Grinag sighed," It is, Innurth. How much power can you control in your standard form?"

Innurth responded instantly," A lot. I have complete control over my element thanks to being an equipollence of wind. As for electricity, I can handle probably five or six billion volts how I am now, but when I become my element infinite. What's your plan, little brother?"

Allit paled, seeing the glint in my eyes," Well, this is not good. For them."

Looking at them, I spoke," Create an electromagnetic field that disrupts their ground machines and hopefully causes them to malfunction. So, in short, we will only have to worry about the flying machines."

My father warned us," They are closing in."

Elder Storm ordered," Innurth, prepare."

Innurth grinned," Step back."

Immediately, waves of power rippled from him. Pulses of energy spread from him as I remembered the last time I saw him do this six months ago. To destroy the backside of the cave wall of our home when we first got attacked. This time, it was much more omnipotent. Wind surges rippled from him as he disappeared into all but a thin outline. The noon sun distracted me momentarily before his voice drew me back.

His voice came from around us," Now for the fun part. All Lightning and Plasma creatures blast me."

The smell of ozone filled the air as arcs of plasma and electricity hit my brother's faint form. As he grinned," Good Grinag, prepare the ground already."

The ground rippled as Grinag controlled the small portion of the earth; Innurth released all the electricity into the environment, creating a wave of electrified dirt. Screams of shock from the humans sounded. One thought unknowingly crossed all of our minds except me, with me reading everyone's minds,' The battle has begun.'

The roars of the planes and helicopters sounded as they moved at high speeds toward us. Immediately, I blasted a ball of my white flames at one of the dozens of what my sister calls planes. The instant my flames connected with one of them, it exploded in a ball of red and yellow flames with chunks of metal falling to the ground.

Both sides charged at full speed. Roars of pain and explosions sounded as my allies released flames, lightning, hurricane-force wind, water waves, and earth waves. Flying through the carnage of the battle, I flung feathers at full speed as I spun in the fighting style my brother taught me these last few months. I was concentrating all my power in my control of light as dozens of light orbs surrounded me. Each one turned into disks of light or spears. I could listen to the human's thoughts as I made all the disks and spears of light spin around me in a sphere of multiple directions. I was creating an impenetrable fortress of light. Planes fired their weapons at me, but none got close. I heard firing from the ground as I released my spirit fire, creating another fortress's outer layer. I could feel myself overheating from the power that I was releasing.

Two large auras emitted at once, which I recognized instantly, caused me to drop both shields. As I shivered from their auras, Lady Argenta flew across from me with Yrvae.

Innurth appeared beside me, still in his equilibrium form," Lady Argenta, it has been a while. I never thought they would capture you."

The much older dragoness replied," It has indeed. Well, what can I say? Humans are greedy."

Yrvae looked at me," Xyverinos, I am sorry, but we were ordered to capture you with our full power. It is our hope you stop us."

Massive auras as the two fire dragonesses entered equipollence. They were now hovering in a mass of flames in the air.

My brother grinned as he shouted," Finally, a worthy challenge."

I yelled," Innurth, please, you are outmatched!"

Innurth spoke from his head,' I am sorry, little brother, but I must do this, know I will always love you, even if...I hate you sometimes. You know I must do this for you. Promise me you will protect Allit, Mother, and Father when I am gone. My last request.'

I cried silently,' I will, elder brother. I promise you this.'

He laughed as he fought, 'Don't cry; let me fight for happiness to protect you.'

The combined power of flames slammed into Innurth as he roared in pain as his wind was consumed. He was causing both of them to become even bigger. Tracking the battle from their conflicting minds, I felt a strange connection to each of their flaming forms. At the same time, I clasped on the strings with all my will, trying to get them to slow down. They halted briefly, and my brother took advantage of this by creating a tornado around them. Releasing the strings, I returned to the battle around me. I heard a roar of pain from nearby as my heart sank, my adoptive mother's.

Rushing towards the roar, I noticed that a ground unit that had survived the initial attack had a significant metal spike in its hand, sparking with electricity. A hole was in my mother's chest as I dove down, landing beside her still body. I tried to feel her mind, but it was silent. I could still feel my father's, Allit's, and Innurth's mind.

Tears dripped from my face as the human in the machine spoke," Surrender. Xyverinos, and you won't see anyone you care for getting hurt or dying."

I glanced at all the other wyverns and dragons fighting beside me. I stared down at the human," No. It is already too late for that. You killed my adoptive mother, and my brother will die fighting against two fire dragonesses of equipollence."

Feeling the mind in the human in front of me, I gripped it," You think because you are behind a suit of armor, it will protect you from me? Physical attacks, yes, but mental no."

He stammered," W-what do you mean?"

My electric blue eyes flashed in anger as I gripped his mind and squeezed it while he screamed in pain before his machine fell and his screaming stopped. I could sense the fear in the humans who watched me do that. My eyes widened upon feeling my brother's and father's mind shut down at once. The promise I made to my brother is now almost void.

In a cry of pain, the battlefield stopped and looked at me. Enemies and allies alike were scared stiffer than wood. Pure power radiated from me as a searing pain ripped through my back under my wings. I could hardly hear anything. I could only feel grief and pain as gasps of shock sounded as the pain stopped.

Looking at my back, I noticed another pair of wings underneath my current ones, which rested under my stomach instead. It felt slightly weird having another set of wings underneath me. The energy radiated from me similarly to equipollence but far, far weaker.

Lady Argenta gasped in her equipollence form still," We have to defeat him now!"

I glared at them as I slowly spread my four wings for the first time," Last chance, back off. I can control you in your equipollence forms myself. I will show why my species was feared, especially my mother's line."

Gripping onto the strings as Yrvae's flames laughed," So this is the power of an Archangel-ranked angelic wyvern. I can already feel your strength of will forcing me to obey. But you are much too young still."

I feel the strings snap instantly as a human voice yells," Retreat; we are being forced back!"

They both turned to their standard forms and jumped into the air, and all the enemies retreated, but I knew they were both sorry for killing my brother.

Glancing around the field with haunted eyes, they landed on my father's body, Innurth's, and I looked back at my mother's body. Three-fourths of my adoptive family were killed. I was shivering as I began to sob, wings wrapped around me as Allit had appeared. I wrapped all four of my feathered wings around me as my sister wrapped her leathered wings around me.

She whispered," Don't cry; they all fought to protect you and this place. Remember, but they will always watch us with Queen Shondrass and your father."

Burrowing my face further into her, I cried," I know, but you are the only member of my family still alive!"

Graveonth's voice came behind me," You're not alone, Xyv. All of us are here to watch your back; we are your friends and adoptive family; some may hate you, but we will be with you for the rest of the way."

I turned my head and looked back at him as he glared towards his father as Grinag shuffled on his legs at his son's pointed glare. Xisu, Chilthor, Shirlan, Graveonth, Elder Storm, and my sister hugging me all radiated three powerful emotions: determination, understanding, and love. Love being friendship or brotherly.

Elder Storm spoke," Take all the time you need to recover Xyverinos. Allit you can spend time with him, you guys will be moved to a cave a bit higher up in the mountain. You can either share or have a different one."

Tears streamed down my face again as I looked at the setting sun. I thought,' Sorry, elder brother, I failed to keep two parts of the promise; I will protect Allit, though I will not allow her to die.'

Exhaustion caught up with me as I snuggled into my sister's warm scales. Falling asleep almost instantly, I last heard Xisu laugh," Did he fall asleep."

I didn't hear the rest as I was fully asleep.
