Chapter 9 - Chapter 7: Confrontation with the Water Queen

An echoing roar sounded from the mountain in front of me. Looking up at the sky, I saw a massive water dragoness who looked oddly familiar. Noticing the water dragoness was opening her gigantic jaw, I dove towards the cave before me. A second later, a powerful blast of water came rushing out of her mouth, flying over my head and colliding with something behind me. Something metallic from the sound of metal tearing apart. Breathing softly, I watched from the entrance of the small cave. Minutes passed as a massive wing talon roughly the same length as half my body.

A soft voice came from the water dragon from outside," Come out, little Angelic Wyvern."

Creeping out slowly, the large water dragoness looked at me and smiled down at me," So you are the one who those foolish humans are after. Follow me, young one."

In a nervous tone, I questioned," Who are you, and why should I follow you?"

She merely smiled," Good, you don't trust me immediately. Good instincts, young ones. But yes, you can trust me. My name is Storm."

Freezing in shock I breathed outwards before I voiced my thoughts," Queen Storm."

She nodded and ordered," Follow me." Not seeing any choice, I leaped into the air after her, and my wings got a cramp immediately falling out of the skies; I was suddenly laying on her tail as she questioned," How long have you been flying for today."

Thinking momentarily, I breathed outwards," Probably three or four hours."

She complimented me," That is impressive for one so young to be fleeing from your brother, sister, mother, and that lightning dragoness."

Responding in kind," Thank you for the compliment. I must ask, why did you save me?"

Storm smirked," Oh, frankly, I wanted to."

Not believing her for a second, I grumbled," Why don't I trust that? Why aren't you in the water right now? I mean, where do you reside?"

She was silent for a few minutes before finally answering," Very wise," She continued," You still haven't told me your name?"

Retorting, I replied," Yet you are dodging the question, for my name is Xyverinos, or recently, I guess my nickname is Xyv."

She responded," Well, Xyverinos, to answer your questions, we also got attacked. It seems the humans are moving to capture or kill us. Some of us have decided to create sanctuaries. Before you ask, the leadership is similar to a monarchy, but other group members are for the haven's upper spheres of influence. Hopefully, you will be safe there. There, you can rest and recover. Who knows how much strain you put on your wings today?"

Breathing a shallow sigh as I watched the big wing muscles of the dragoness move in steady beats but covering a lot of ground in a single burst of movement. Shaking my head, I thought carefully of how to destroy the collars,' Alright, could they withstand my flames or water blasts? Maybe a sharp earthen spike, but I guess the collars will not break on any of the main elements of lightning, water, fire, earth, wind. So, in conclusion, obsidian, crystal, reef, and plasma would be useless. My flames could be the only thing strong enough to break the collars.' Looking over towards the ground, I noticed animals running in a group of forty or so. They had a single horn on the top of their heads.

Storm spoke as if she was reading my mind," Those animals down there are called unicorns. They all possess potent magic; some are healers, attackers, or scouts. Tell me, Xyverinos, what powers do you know you have."

Thinking for a split second, I replied," Reading emotions, and the mind, future sight, and my fire, that's all I know right now anyhow." She sighed and kept silent.

Flying silently, she finally spoke up," We are just arriving at the haven now."

Finally realizing we were at a massive waterfall, I didn't recognize it. While I looked around, I noticed we were near a forest I didn't remember. Curious about where we were, I questioned Storm," Where are we exactly."

A response came instantly," What was once my home now more or less it is a sanctuary for all kinds. Safety is in numbers, after all."

I watched as she landed calmly on the ground as two voices from below us in the environment spoke," Welcome back, Elder."

I jumped in, surprised as one of the earth wyverns or dragons laughed," Sorry, young one."

A minute later, an earth dragon and an earth wyvern appeared I looked at them warily as I got attacked the last time I met one.

Noticing they weren't making any threatening moves, on,e smirked and spoke up," So you are the one the humans are after, huh."

While I glanced at the earth wyvern and dragon, I simply noddedas I jumped off and landed on the ground , shakingmy body out. Elder Storm was walking ahead of me as she beckoned to me with her tail as I followed behind her massive form. I was silently flicking my tail nervously as I noticed all the different wyvern or dragon species in this place.

She suddenly stopped for a minute before calling out a name," Krodi! Come here; you have a little one."

A minute passed as a plasma wyvern flew down and gushed upon seeing me," Aww, he is so adorable! Is he the one everyone is after, Elder?"

Elder Storm replied," Yes, this is Xyverinos. Xyverinos, meet Krodi; she will be your caretaker tell you are eight or so."

As I felt I would struggle with putting up with her, I was paling slightly," Understood."

In a peppy voice, Krodi smiled at me and said," Please follow me. Little one."

Following her without a single word, I took a read of the emotions here. Kodi's primary feeling was, to my surprise ha,tred towards me. Finally saying something about this, I growled," Maybe try to stop hating me when I am around you. Before you ask, I can read emotions and your mind. Don't bother lying to me."

She ignored me and spun around with a fake smile," Alright, this will be where you are staying. I will come to get you when it's time to eat. You are in the male area. The dragoness side is across the hall."

Calmly, I walked into the sleeping room. Looking around, I noticed two winds, three plasma, a fire, one earth, two water, four reefs, three crystals, and two obsidian wyverns or dragons. Finding a straw nest in a corner, I breathed out softly, thankful for the comfortable bedding after all the trouble I went through today. Closing my eyes, I calmly tuned out my surroundings. A voice came from above me arrogantly," Oh, look, a newbie, let us teach him who is in charge here."

Opening my electric blue eyes, I saw an earth dragon, a plasma wyvern, and an obsidian dragon. I noticed their sizes and realized they were probably a year or two older than me.

Breathing shallowly, I whispered," What do you need?"

The earth dragon had a smirk on his face," Oh, just to let you know that we are in charge here, wind wyvern."

Shaking my head, I corrected him," I am going to fix you on two points. One, I am not a wind wyvern; two, I am an Angelic Wyvern."

The earth dragon growled," Remember who is in charge here."

Standing up myself, I hissed as I growled," I must ask you have you seen your own family try to capture you, get struck by lightning, flung around by a hurricane, and get away from three wind wyverns and a lightning dragoness. No, so quiet down. You know next to nothing about me. Oh, another thing I should mention, my brother is a wind wyvern of equipollence."

The earth dragon lunged at me, grabbing my throat with his sharp and jagged claws, holding a wing talon to my throat. He began to put more pressure on my throat as he hissed into my ear," That is your first mistake, little wyvern; my father told me you ran into him. He told me who your mother is. Queen Shondrass, the killer of my older brother and mother, carve my name, Garveonth. I will be your killer—another thing he said that you got an injury. Where is it? I see only unmarked scales."

He began to place more force with his claws on my throat. Beginning to choke now, I knew I had to act quickly. Swinging my tail, it collided with his paw as he dropped me with a yelp as I growled," I am not responsible for what my mother did in the war, oh yes, I know what happened during the last war, after all my adoptive family is all veterans of said war. Either way, my mother died the night I hatched. In short, you are just as naive as me," With a sharp look," In fact, all of you are for picking on a younger wyvern a year or two younger than yourself."

Garveonth snarled at me," You call me naive little hatchling."

He was livid as his claws were currently tearing, gouging deep trenches into the stone floor. Keeping eye contact with him, I sharpened my wings just in case he decided to attack.

The older of the two wind wyverns, maybe seven, almost eight, came over and ordered Garveonth," Leave him alone."

Garveonth and his lackeys left without a word as the wind wyvern smiled," Hello Xyverinos. It's been a few years." Slightly confused, tell a face popped up in my memory of a somewhat older wind wyverness and the wyvern in front of me several years younger.

Seconds later popped up in my head," Chithor right."

He laughed," I am impressed you remember that. I am unsure if you have met my younger brother; she is a year older than you. Xisu, come over here."

The younger wind wyvern walked over and smiled," Nice to finally meet you, Xyverinos. My older brother told me a lot about you."

Smiling, I replied," Likewise, Xisu. Though being friends with me could be hectic due to my species."

Xisu shrugged," These past few weeks have already been exhausting, or am I wrong."

Both Chithor and I laughed in agreement as I grinned," Yeah, especially for me, getting struck by lightning, thrown around in a hurricane, and quite a bit more."

They both shook their heads as I questioned," Don't you have an older sister."

Chithor nodded and answered," Yeah, we do. Your memory is impressive, unlike this one. Shirlan is ten now. Well, I have a feeling your more tired than hungry; I will let Krodi know."

Nodding, I replied," Thank you." Curling up soon afterward, I closed my eyes falling asleep.

Only to be woken up a little bit later by Krodi herself as she smiled," Come along, Xyverinos, time to eat."

Shaking my head, I replied sleepily," I need rest. I am frankly exhausted, so, and please let me get some sleep."

She looked at me and advised with a threat," It is within your best interest to listen to me or else."

Yawning sleepily, I just curled up again and closed my eyes,' Why would I listen to someone arrogant or won't let a young wyvern rest after everything went on today.' With the final thought in my head, I entirely fell asleep. At the same time, I was hoping for a restful night without any dreams.
