Desmond staggered as he backed out the front door. "Clarity, please baby, just listen. I can explain!" He tried again desperately and slammed the door as he ducked under the lamp that soared at his head and barely missed. She really was pissed. He caught the scent of both Clyde and Simon at the exact moment he heard one of them snort.
"What the fuck did you do?" Clyde demanded harshly as he jumped the three stairs to the deck. He knocked on the door and called out to Clarity. "Clarity? It's Clyde. You're right and Desmond is an uncultured bastard that needs to have his head examined. Can I come in?"
"Clyde. Thank the gods. Will you take me home?" He heard Clarity say just before the door snapped shut. his heart broke when he heard the tears in her voice.
"I told you it was a bad idea." Simon hissed harshly.
"And I told you that we were to be left in peace this weekend." Desmond shot back angrily. "I can't believe you told Clyde."
"I didn't tell Clyde." He held up his hand to show the small air tag he was holding. "He over heard me telling her dad."
"You what!"
"I'm not fighting a fucking dragon for you dude. Sorry."
"You son of a-" He started but was cut off by Clyde's loud shout of rage.
"I ought to kill you! You bastard!" A large angry dragon landed just as Clyde came storming out of the cabin.
"I'm not sure which is worse. Clyde's wrath or getting eaten by a dragon." Desmond grumbled as he pulled Clarity's clothes from the back seat of the truck. He slammed the door as Sypherous stormed over.
"If you plan on killing me just do it." Desmond rolled his eyes as he started to pull his t-shirt on to his arms. He saw the moment Sypherous noticed the mark on his chest. It looked like an intricate tattoo. The delicate lines swirled and curved into like a black mist just beneath the surface of his skin. A wicked smirk formed on his lips. "That's right you can't kill me. Fresh mark and all."
"He can't. But I can." Clyde snarled visciously. "What the actual fuck where you thinking?!"
"I was thinking that I need my beta. Alive!"
"What do you mean?" Simon asked confused.
"Oh. So the elders didn't tell you. That's interesting." Desmond ran his hand through his hair. "Ok. Well, as you two know, the elders have been after me to mate. Last week they gave me an ultimatum. Mark and mate Clarity or they would force Simon to challenge me for my title. I did what I had to do."
"Is she pregnant?" Sypherous asked as he scrubbed his face with his hands.
"Too soon to tell. But it is very likely. Sypherous, why don't you take her home." Clyde suggested with a sigh. "If Desmond tries to talk to her right now she's likely to get violent again."
"Good." The Dragon huffed.
"Not good. She doesn't understand that if she hurts him she will be hurt as well."
"Fine. Where is she?"
"She's taking a shower now so it will be a minute." Clyde glared at Desmond. "You should be gone by the time she gets out."
"She's still pissed huh?"
"What the fuck do you think?" Clyde growled between his teeth. He kept snarling about violating her choices but Desmond didn't hear him as a sudden sharp pain ran through his head and stars danced prettily before his eyes. He took off like a shot towards the cabin. He couldn't remember taking the stairs but he was already forcing his way into the locked bathroom.
Clarity was curled on the floor of the tub in the fetal position as she clutched her injured head. The mirror wall over the tub had shattered when something hit it hard. "Clarity, baby, let me see." He coaxed as he pulled her hands away from her head. Desmond could smell the blood coming from the cut on her face but she resisted. "I can look at or your dad can." He said firmly as someone shut off the water and passed a towel over his shoulder.
He wrapped the fluffy fabric around her naked body and lifted her from the tub. His head was still spinning and he staggered only to be caught by Sypherous.
"Clarity let me see." He coaxed as he gently guided them to the floor.
"Mmmm." She moaned and lowered her arms. There was a large gash on her forehead. Desmond could feel the blood running down into his eye. He was about to lift her into his arms when he heard doctor Samuel Jankins calling from the front door.
"Alpha? Are you here? I know you wanted some privacy with your -"
"Jankins! Master bathroom now!" He belowed out the order and it sounded slurred even to him. He could hear him coming up the stairs.
"Alpha I'm sorry but Cynthia was up set and-"
"Simon take Cynthia to her room." Desmond slurred as the door opened and Cynthia rushed in only to stop short as she went pale.
"MOMMY!" She wailed and started to cry hysterically. "DADDY! DON'T DIE!"
"Simon get her out of here now!" Desmond snarled visciously. Once she was gone he turned to Sypherous. "This is Dr. Jankins from the emergency department at the pack hospital. He knows what he's doing." Darkness started to close in from the edges of his vision and he felt sick. "Stay wake baby." He begged as he held her tighter.
"Alpha stay with me." Jankins said and put a hand on his arm. "She needs to go to the hospital Alpha." Desmond could hear him calling but it seemed so far away now. He felt as if he was slipping bellow the surface of a vast lake of ink. He could hear the others in the room talking but couldn't understand what was being said.
"Cynthia." He muttered before he completely lost consciousness. Alicar whimpered they had to secure child care for their sweet little pup but it was too late.
