"I can't believe you got in Serena" Mum said before giving me a crippling hug. "Mum please you can let go now I can barely breathe" I said hoping she would let go any minute. "Am sorry darling am just so happy for you " Mum said, she was crying now I knew she would she has been very anxious since she had that the admissions list had been released. My dad died last year in a car crash. Dad really wanted me to get into Everest ,it was our little dream. Before he died he made me promise to do anything possible to get into Everest. When it was time to submit my college application I didn't really care about applying for other institutions . " Don't be silly Serena, with that brain of yours you would have Oxford begging to have you don't waste your time on some childhood dream" Mrs Meyer had said when she saw my college application. I knew everyone felt I was crazy for applying to Everest."I didn't know they still accepted students. the entire school is really strange" Miss Thompson said. "I don't think it's the right place for you " Granny had said. They all didn't understand I felt like I needed to be there I wanted to go there. Getting this email was very important to me. I had two weeks to report at the University which was barely enough time to get ready but we had to make do with it.
"Come on Serena we need to get going or we will be late" Mum said dragging my boxes to the car. " I would be down in a minute" I said. " hope am not forgetting anything" I said taking a final look around my room . l took a look at the mirror , I looked really nice but I wished I got my braids done but my hair looked okay I guess. "Serena let's go" Mum yelled. "Am coming" I yelled back there was still something I had to do. " Everest please be nice to me" with these words I hurried down the stairs on my way to school.
"Miss Serena Anderson" said fat grumpy Lady.
"Here I am.... am here" I said hurrying into the admission office. "your late" Miss Shaunta who apparently is going to be my hostel supervisor said with the most frightening look. "Am sorry.... I.. there was alot of traffic on the way...." I stuttered trying to come up with a good excuse. "Save the excuse I don't want to hear it...,umm you are assigned room 101 at Wersley hall all you need to know is in the rules which you could read to ensure your peaceful stay at Everest university and I hope you enjoy your stay here ". Miss Shaunta said without looking at me she was too concentrated in whatever she was reading. I quietly took my room key and the Everest book of rules which was on her table and went back to my mum who was at the lobby. "So have you gotten your room?" Mum said with a large smile on her face. It's been long since I saw her this happy . I would do anything to keep that smile on her face whatever it takes. "Yeah I am in Wersley hall room 101" I said waving my room key. "Great let's go and see your room which way is it". "According to the rules guide it says all hostels are at the left wing of the school so I think left" I said leading the way.
"Ahh here it is room 101" I was so anxious I could hear my heart pounding in my chest hoping I would have a roommate who I had similar hobbies with... someone who loves eating popcorn and watching cheesy movies on Saturdays. I opened the door and a strong smell of male colon flooded my nose and I sneezed not what I was expecting but I still had hope until we actually got in. I looked around... half of the room was painted dark blue with weird pictures of what looked like Rock bands and nude models. I wondered whether I was actually in the right room and I guess mum felt the exact same way. It was pretty obvious which side of the room was mine.. at the right end of the room the bed had pale pink sheets and the walls were equally the same color. "Are you sure we are in the right room" Mum said she looked so shocked that her dark brown skin looked oddly pale. " yeah I am sure we are" I said equally shocked surely whoever is my roommate definitely doesn't eat popcorn or watch movies on a Saturday. " Well then your certainly not living here we are heading to the admission office right now and requesting for a new room" Mum said furious. " Mum it really isn't that bad " I said barely believing my own words. "Are you sick Serena whoever is this supposed roommate of yours would definitely be trouble and not the good kind , she might be taking drugs imagine how her friends would be ". Mum said looking at the pictures on the wall. "I would be alright Mum, I promise there is nothing to be worried about usually a loud , obnoxious person is actually a soft, sweet soul within. I didn't believe My own words but, I couldn't go trying to change my room right now, the semester had already begun and I couldn't afford to be behind in any of my classes plus the massive paperwork. Maybe next semester I would have my dream roommate but for now I have to put up with this one whoever she is. "Fine but am not leaving till I see her" Mum said. I really needed mum to leave I had alot of unpacking to do and I need to catch up with my reading. "Mum please you can't wait that long I have alot to do" I said. "I can help you sweetie " mum said smiling. "No mum you need to get going you know you can't be driving at night". " Okay let's go grab lunch and when we get back if she's not back then I will go ,deal?" Of course it's a deal I don't have a choice and this would be a good opportunity to get to know my way around. "Alright " I said wheeling my boxes to the said of the empty bed. shuting the door behind me and we were on our way for lunch .
