Pariston leaned against the railing, his eyes narrowed like a crescent moon in the night sky.
"Go on. There will be endless troubles following him. It doesn't matter if you're dominated. Gather your courage and approach him."
Pariston spoke with such ease, as if he were encouraging Saiyu to ask Germain out on a date.
"Huh?" Saiyu's voice rose a bit before dropping again. "In that case, even a fool would realize someone is plotting behind the scenes, right?"
"Yeah." Pariston nodded. "Isn't that great?"
"I don't understand."
"Haha." Pariston chuckled, though it lacked true laughter. "He's actually just like us. For him, the most troublesome thing is being targeted by V5 and Chairman Netero."
"He has the strength and ability. I believe he knows that among the six continents, we are the only ones who can truly protect and support him."
"We're kindred spirits; he will understand soon enough."
Saiyu pondered for a moment on the other end of the phone and replied, "Okay, okay, I'll give it a try. This time, I'll need some of your resources. If things get out of control again, don't blame me."
---
Half an hour earlier.
The island was experiencing a heavy downpour. Despite the storm outside, everything inside was calm. Both men and women wore humble smiles.
Light Nostrade had been invited to this grand dinner and was currently moving around the various small groups in the hall, engaging in necessary socializing.
However, the people he truly wanted to speak with, especially in front of so many others, were the big shots who had just finished their speeches and returned to the second floor.
The Ten Dons were the leaders of almost half the Mafia forces across the six continents. They held unmatched power and had fearsome reputations.
Those who weren't core members could not fathom how important the matters the Ten Dons dealt with every day were, as they influenced the operations of most of the dark world.
Light's eyes burned with anger. He knew he couldn't join the core group of the Ten Dons just yet, but as long as Neon was around, he would eventually gain access.
There had to be a chance.
All he needed was a little patience. Yes, just a bit of patience; the Ten Dons would eventually recognize the significance of the Nostrade family and his abilities.
By that time, the Nostrade family would be ready to rise to greatness.
Meanwhile, in a spacious room on the second floor, Ten Dons sat around a round table, smoking and discussing matters concerning the Nostrade family.
"The Evil Wolf just called. Neon Nostrade, the daughter of the Nostrade family, is at the scene and has been taken hostage. He is asking for instructions. What should we do?"
"Neon Nostrade? Why is she there? Is there a problem with our intel, or is it just an accident?"
"It's likely that we've been used as a tool. We can investigate this further later. But right now, the priority is to eliminate Germain."
"The Shadow Beasts are very confident. They acknowledge that Germain has some skills. Three or four Shadow Beasts can't take him down, but if they join forces, the outcome will be different."
"However, we must consider the unexpected factor of Neon in this final situation."
The Ten Dons could never forget how Germain and his allies had killed more than half of the Shadow Beast members a few months ago. This incident had turned the Shadow Beasts into a laughingstock, significantly harming the reputation of the Ten Dons and diminishing their influence.
If they hadn't promoted new members quickly and set a strong example, there could have been chaos within their organization.
They remembered this humiliation, believing that everyone in the dark world was aware of it and watching closely to see how they would handle Germain.
Yet, Germain was so elusive that even their intelligence network struggled to track him down.
Even the chaotic forces of Meteor City and NGL had to cooperate with Ten Dons to have a chance to spread the assassins from Meteor City and the "DD anesthetic" produced by NGL around the world.
They needed the Ten Dons's assistance, so when doing business with them, they held back their madness towards outsiders.
This cooperative relationship made the Ten Dons quite proud. Their special status earned them respect and allowed them to maintain control over most of the dark world's dealings.
However, there is now someone who has exposed their faces and trampled on them, making the identities of the Ten Dons no longer sacred or supreme in the dark world.
No matter what conflict caused this, it doesn't matter. In short, Germain must die.
Soon, the Ten Dons reached a consensus at the round table.
"I heard that two Shadow Beasts have died. It's probably because of that Neon that our people are tied up... We can't delay any longer; let's take action."
"Well, I know Light Nostrade. He is a coward. I'll give him some compensation later. For example, I can let him have some connections with the low-class trade with the Kakin Empire."
"Haha, he still made money from it."
"Yeah, he made money."
So the order was given.
After all, this is just a small matter. Since Germain showed up tonight, he must die, and the situation with Light is nothing.
The Ten Dons began to discuss more important matters, such as paying heavy taxes to V5 in exchange for numerous Mafia members that operate as legitimate companies or associations, or dealing with conflicts involving certain forces or Mafia.
Because of their nonchalant attitude, when the news of the tragic battle results on the Twin Bridges arrived, the Ten Dons found it absurd.
How could such a thing happen in the world? All the Shadow Beasts and most of the elite Mafia members just died on that bridge?
Did Germain escape again? His whereabouts are unknown again? The Ten Dons frowned, and the room fell into an eerie silence for a moment. No one spoke, so much so that the guards nearby could sense the tension and controlled their breathing.
"Soon, the news will get out." Finally, one of the Ten Dons spoke up. "Whether we like it or not, those idiots have failed again."
"It seems all the generous treatment we've given them was in vain... It's troublesome; someone is preparing to make a move again."
"They dare?! As long as the ten of us join forces, they can't do anything. Now the key issue is, what should we do about this Germain?"
"Time and again, he treats us as if we don't exist. If we give him more courage, won't he come to assassinate us?"
When one of the Ten Dons mentioned this possibility, it immediately awakened the others. This chilling sense of crisis finally forced them to make a decision right away.
"We must fully support the Phantom Troupe," one of the Ten Dons said. "I heard there's a grudge between them, and it seems like there's an internal conflict. Germain has killed several of them."
"As for the Zoldyck family, we can spend some more money to ask for their help. The most important thing is that we can't let Germain live any longer. As long as he's alive, we won't be able to sleep or eat peacefully."
After discussing for a while, the Ten Dons heard loud, piercing screams coming from downstairs. They listened for a moment, frowned, and ordered their subordinates to check it out.
The subordinates returned with news that everyone at the party in the hall downstairs had heard about the tragic death of Light's daughter, Neon. Light almost collapsed in shock.
"Light seems to have lost his mind," one subordinate reported to the Ten Dons. "He's saying things like, 'the previous prophecy has come true,' 'the prophecy can't be avoided; it will eventually come true,' and that it will be 'fulfilled in an even more tragic way.'"
The Ten Dons frowned but didn't think much of it. They waved their hands, instructing their subordinates to take care of Light Nostrade's situation.
