Germain could feel the wind whistling in his ears. It was astonishing how fast Buhara, who was as round as a ball, could move.
But Germain was even faster.
He reached out and grabbed Buhara's clothes, almost pressing his body against Buhara's chest with his left arm raised. He not only dodged Buhara's double palm strike but also leaped onto Buhara's back like a nimble squirrel.
Buhara's palms struck air.
The "Cleaver" was as sharp as ice, held diagonally just an inch from Buhara's neck.
Buhara stood there, stunned, his hands clasped together like a praying Buddha. When he glanced behind, his face showed fear.
"The winner has been decided," Menchi announced, crossing his arms. "Buhara, you were too careless. If this had been a real fight, you'd be seriously injured."
Germain hopped off Buhara's back and landed firmly on the grass.
Buhara straightened up, scratching the back of his head sheepishly.
"I see now where I went wrong. I thought my height and close-combat skills were my advantages, but I didn't expect to be outmaneuvered."
In a life-or-death situation, even if Buhara had quickly gathered his Nen to defend using "Ryu" at the back of his neck, he would still have been hurt.
Germain had mobilized his Nen so rapidly that it seemed to explode in an instant.
Buhara is an "Enhancer," but he had used more general advanced techniques like "Ko," "Ryu," and "Ken" in the fight.
Unlike others, Buhara's "Nen ability" enhances his "stomach."
Just like Palm and Komugi, who will play chess with the Ant King in the future, his Nen ability enhances not just strength and speed, but other physical traits too.
Palm enhances perception and search abilities, and Komugi boosts intelligence, particularly strategic wisdom.
Similarly, Buhara's "Nen ability" is "Gluttony," which is more about savoring food and doesn't contribute much to "Nen ability combat" in a short time.
"It's not just that," Menchi said, waving his hand. "Buhara, haven't you noticed? Germain never uses his left hand."
"Even though he's right-handed, he can still use both hands to conjure weapons and fight. If he had used his left hand just now, you would have been in a much worse situation."
Buhara looked surprised, then sighed and laughed. "I lost."
Kurapika and Zushi were amazed by what they saw. The fight was so quick—only five seconds long—that they didn't even see what happened.
Wing noticed their puzzled looks.
"This is why I told you to keep practicing," Wing said with a smile. "Only with constant practice can you change from attack and defense instantly."
"If your breathing isn't smooth, it slows you down like friction, like being shackled."
"But if your breathing is smooth, it's like adding nitrous to your speed, giving you incredible power instantly."
Zushi was a bit confused by this explanation.
Kurapika, who had been through many battles and understood "Ten" and "Zetsu," began to understand and looked at Germain with new insight.
Mr. Wing, who could explain this theory so well, was impressive, but what really suited Kurapika's needs were Germain's powerful moves.
He knew he had to learn this.
"The second game has started," Bisky said with a smile. She sat on the grass, looking like a girl, with her fists clenched and her tilted face propped up.
Kurapika stared intently, hoping to catch a glimpse of something this time, even if it was just the fading movements in the afterimage.
Buhara stepped aside, and Menchi slowly took her place on the stage.
"Just to be clear," she said, pulling out two knives from the leather sheaths on her back. They gleamed brightly in the sunlight. "Even though I can control the force precisely, I can't always retract the blade in time when facing a strong opponent like you, even if it's not a real fight."
"I understand," Germain replied calmly, "I'll deflect your knives if necessary."
Germain's "Cleaver" transformed back into a "cane," which he planted into the grass, making him look quite distinguished in his black robe.
Menchi couldn't help but feel her forehead tense with frustration.
"Really? You're so confident. You must think you can handle every strike I make, right?"
Menchi spun the two knives in her hands, then threw the one in her left hand. It flew through the air like a bullet, heading straight for Germain's chest!
Germain quickly pulled out his "cane" and struck out like a silver snake. There was a clash of metal, and sparks flew as he deflected the knife at the last moment!
Menchi pulled her left arm back and then thrust it forward.
The thrown knife made a wide arc in the air, coming back to attack Germain again.
At the same time, Menchi threw the knife from her right hand.
The two knives came from different angles—one in front and one behind, one up and one down—trying to block all of Germain's defense routes.
Hurry up and use your left hand, don't underestimate me, Menchi thought proudly.
"Manipulator."
Germain was not surprised.
"Manipulator" can control both living beings and inanimate objects, including weapons.
So, it's often hard to distinguish between "Manipulator" who controls objects and "Conjurer" just by their appearance. Both types often try to mimic each other's abilities to confuse their opponents.
Menchi is a "one-star hunter," and her details are kept highly confidential. However, if there are any witnesses to her actions, a record of her "Nen ability" will be made public, so her Nen ability is known to Germain.
Menchi uses her "Double-Edge Rhapsody" Nen ability, where she controls two knives as if they are extensions of her own hands, allowing her to fight from a distance.
Aware of this, Germain uses his "cane" to counter her. With a click, a metal whip extends from the cane and wraps around the first knife that approaches, binding it tightly and rendering it immobile.
Menchi is taken aback. Although she had researched Germain, she hadn't anticipated this use of his cane.
While trying to regain control of the trapped knife, Menchi manipulates the other knife, guiding it in a zigzag pattern on the ground before it suddenly curves and flies toward Germain's abdomen.
Seeing this, Germain reveals his trick. A "Cleaver" appears in his left hand, and he strikes it down forcefully to block the incoming knife. He then uses his strength to send the knife flying away like a hook.
Germain then grabs the knife that was entangled in the whip from his cane and holds it firmly. The knife still struggles against Menchi's control.
Menchi manages to catch the flying knife just in time, freezing it in mid-air, and then focuses on the other knife in Germain's hand. After a moment, she sighs and releases her will, letting the floating knife return to her hand.
"I probably can't beat you," she says, giving up. "Let's call it a day."
Germain, remembering the purpose of their fight, tosses the knife back to her.
Menchi catches it and gives Germain a glare for taking one of her weapons.
