Chapter 117 - Chapter 119 : Hard Time???

"In order to better assist with 'Nen Exorcism,' I gave it some thought," Abengane said, looking embarrassed. He wanted to flatter someone but wasn't sure how to start. He wasn't skilled at this and was doing it out of necessity.

"This setup I've arranged will make the 'Nen Exorcism' process smoother."

In reality, Abengane did this more for his own protection.

Since the last 'exorcism,' Abengane had been thinking about how to assert his rights as an 'exorcist' the next time he encountered Germain.

After all, exorcising Nen for Germain was risky. If possible, he even hoped to refuse all future 'exorcisms' for Germain.

Abengane had mentally rehearsed a firm refusal many times, which gave him some courage.

But when he heard that Germain had killed three members of the 'Phantom Troupe,' he realized that the courage he had built up vanished quickly.

When Germain approached him again for 'Nen Exorcism,' Abengane abandoned all his previous preparations and decided to swallow his anger.

If he couldn't refuse the 'Nen Exorcism,' at least he should take safer and more reliable protective measures for his own 'exorcism.'

Thinking this, Abengane chose to step back and set up the formation in the room.

"Do it your way. Let's get started," Germain said, not wanting to waste time.

Abengane glanced at Kurapika, who was standing in the corner, watching with curiosity. Kurapika probably had his own thoughts but was ignored.

Seeing Kurapika's innocent look, Abengane was certain that he had no knowledge of 'Nen abilities.'

Otherwise, before entering the basement, Kurapika would have used 'Ken,' like Abengane and Germain, to handle any emergencies in the dark and narrow environment.

The 'Exorcist' didn't worry about that. He filled an iron box in the middle of the room with firewood, poured oil on it, and lit it with a flamethrower. The fire spread, creating black smoke.

As usual, Abengane held a strange doll, muttered something, and used his 'forest spirit' for 'Nen Exorcism' of Germain.

Kurapika watched with a strange expression, feeling it was some sort of deceptive curse ritual, and began to feel disappointed.

However, Germain's performance on the airship made Kurapika unable to resist the curiosity. He felt there might be something unusual that he couldn't see yet.

At that moment, a strange wind suddenly blew, and more smoke rose from the iron box, accompanied by a strange clanging sound.

Kurapika frowned, sensing something was wrong, and took a step forward. Suddenly, he felt a chilling presence!

Terrified—

The chill made him feel as if he were standing naked in the snow. The cold wind seemed to cut through his flesh, and waves of nausea surged from his stomach to his throat.

Soon, Kurapika was sweating heavily. The suitcase he was holding dropped to the ground with a thud. His legs gave out, and he collapsed onto the floor.

Germain and Abengane heard the noise but didn't turn around to see what was happening.

When Kurapika saw several strange, twisted reptiles crawling out of the flames in the iron box, his breathing quickened, and his whole body shook.

What… what is this?

(Note: Normally, "releasing the Nen beast" is invisible to ordinary people, but "conjuring the Nen beast" is visible.)

If Kurapika could stay calm, he would notice that not only was he trembling, but also Abengane, the "Nen Exorcist," was shaking.

The number of "Nen Beasts"... has increased... again...

Though it was expected, Abengane felt a shiver down his spine as he saw the ten "Nen Beasts" huddled together.

He watched them wail toward their "mother" like conjoined twins, and fear took hold of him. "Forest Spirit," please protect me and shield me from this terrible, filthy thing… Abengane prayed silently.

He hoped he wouldn't have nightmares that night.

But being an experienced "Nen Exorcist," even though this was the most horrifying scene he had ever encountered, he forced himself to stay calm.

"Mr. Germain," Abengane called out nervously, "Which 'Nen Beast' are you going to get rid of this time?"

Kurapika, who was still overwhelmed with fear, was momentarily distracted by the name "Mr. Germain" and became stunned.

He had been gathering information about the "Phantom Troupe" and knew a bit about their recent events.

It was said that a man named "Germain" had joined the "Phantom Troupe" last year, but left for unknown reasons and went on to kill three members in a row.

There were many theories about why this happened. Some said it was due to a power struggle, others claimed it was because of unfair distribution of loot, and some believed "Germain" was originally sent as an undercover agent by another force...

What was undeniable was that a man named "Germain" had killed three "Phantom Troupe members" within just two months.

Kurapika couldn't help but look at Germain's back with curiosity. He wanted to understand this man.

When Germain heard Abengane's question, he pointed to one of the "Scarlet Nen Beasts" based on his intuition and said, "That one."

"Okay," Abengane said, starting the final and most crucial step of "Nen Exorcism." "Wind Spirit, please..."

After a moment, a lizard-like "Nen Beast" was destroyed by Abengane amidst its wailing cries.

He then forced the remaining "Nen Beasts" back without hesitation and quickly put out the flames.

"This is it... it's finally over..."

After finishing everything, Abengane, drenched in sweat, sighed with relief. He leaned against the wall to steady himself and took a moment to rest.

Germain, using the "Hunter Badge," confirmed that the "negative trait" known as "moody" had been removed, and he felt quite pleased.

"Abengane, thank you," Germain said to the "Nen Exorcist," nodding. "I've already transferred the Jenny, so this is the end of it for now."

"Ah... okay," Abengane said hesitantly, deciding to follow his instincts.

He really didn't want to anger Germain. For example, Germain could easily take out the "Phantom Troupe" or the "Shadow Beast," so a "Nen Exorcist" like him was nothing in comparison.

Well, just consider yourself unlucky.

When Germain turned around, he saw Kurapika standing up and watching him intently, as if wanting to learn everything.

Germain didn't respond to Kurapika's question and simply walked out of the room filled with potted plants.

Kurapika hesitated for a moment but then decided to follow, carrying his suitcase.

Abengane watched them disappear around the corner, finally letting out a deep sigh of relief.

He stared at the smoke-stained ceiling and the whirring exhaust fan, feeling like crying.

It's not easy for a "Nen Exorcist" to earn a living.
