Chapter 98 - Chapter 99 : Climbing the World Tree!!

Five days later, Sanbica took off Germain's bandage and found no need for medicine because his recovery was so quick. She looked astonished under her medical cap.

Germain's healing speed was incredible.

Wing was still in bed, and Bisky and Shizuku needed ongoing treatment. Yet, Germain's external wounds had started to scab over, and his internal injuries were almost fully healed.

It was astonishing—a medical miracle!

Germain, ignoring Sanbica's amazed gaze, pulled down his shirt and thanked her.

Sanbica nodded, looked at Germain's wound for a moment, and then left the room.

Germain's fast recovery wasn't surprising. It was mainly due to his 47 points in "Physique" and the "Genius Trait."

After staying in the mansion for a few days, Germain decided where he would go once his injuries healed.

With no imminent Dark Continent explorations and the impossibility of staying at the base forever, he made his plans.

When he told everyone where he was going, they were surprised by his quick recovery but found his destination both unexpected and understandable.

So, on April 7, after saying goodbye to everyone still recovering, Germain left the mansion.

By then, his "stress" had naturally dropped to zero thanks to Bisky's "Magical Beautician Miss Cookie" treatment.

April 9.

During his not-so-hurried journey, Germain first took an airship, then a train, and finally a taxi, reaching a town.

The town is a well-known tourist spot, and its main attraction is the towering World Tree.

This World Tree stands out among the scattered houses around it, towering at 1,784 meters—taller than any human-made structure, including the Heavens Arena.

That's why it's called the "World Tree."

Germain stood beneath the World Tree, gazing up.

He had to admit that the World Tree was impressively tall and deserved its grand name on the Six Continents. However, compared to the World Tree he had seen in the Dark Continent, it still seemed short.

This World Tree had stopped growing, and it was practically impossible for it to reach the height of a true World Tree. The soil here just couldn't support that kind of growth.

Germain got ready to climb the World Tree.

After purchasing his ticket, the staff gave a detailed explanation of the safety precautions to Germain, who seemed distracted.

Germain didn't pay much attention, instead pulling out his phone to take a picture of the World Tree and send it to the "Stage Coach Group."

Before anyone in the "Stage Coach Group" could respond, he received a text from Hisoka saved as the "Pervert."

"2:1 (smiley face)."

Germain glanced at the cryptic message, frowned, and thought about its meaning. It didn't take long for him to figure it out.

Since their fallout with the Phantom Troupe, Germain and Machi had blocked each other and deleted their contact details, so Germain had lost track of the Troupe's activities.

However, knowing Hisoka's twisted sense of humor, Germain understood that the message referred to the score of their hunt for the Phantom Troupe members.

After the Stonehenge battle, Hisoka had killed Kortopi and Germain had killed Phinks, making the score 2:1. This meant Hisoka had recently killed another Phantom Troupe member.

Not sure who it was, Germain didn't text back but got ready to climb the World Tree. The staff gave their final warnings.

"In other words, only thirty strong people make it to the top and back safely each year. Be cautious and don't push yourself too hard."

"Okay," Germain nodded.

The staff member shook his head. He saw many young men who looked relaxed at first, but halfway up, they'd either slip and fall or call for help.

He expected Germain might be no different.

Unexpectedly, just as he blinked, Germain disappeared from sight, startling him so much that he jumped out of his chair.

"He...he...is he a ghost?" The staff member was horrified. Only when he looked up did he see a black figure moving swiftly along the trunk of the World Tree.

"This is unbelievable! This is the second time today I've seen someone climbing a tree as if they're flying! Are all these people monsters?"

The staff member couldn't help but wipe the cold sweat off his forehead and neck with a towel.

Germain stepped on the worn footholds left by previous climbers on the World Tree and launched himself upward like a catapult. He quickly passed 500 meters and saw many challengers climbing alongside him.

However, these challengers were not as relaxed as Germain. They were all heavily equipped and climbing slowly with serious expressions.

When they saw a black shadow zoom past them, their hearts raced with fear. They glanced at each other, wondering if they had imagined it because of their nervousness.

They couldn't make out what it was since Germain was moving too fast; even an elevator wouldn't be that quick.

800 meters, 900 meters, 1000 meters... Germain didn't take a break. The higher he climbed, the thinner the tree trunks became. He grabbed the branches and shot himself into the air like a slingshot.

Finally, after ten minutes, Germain reached the top of the World Tree, which was nearly 1,800 meters high.

At the top, there was a huge bird's nest with several large, oval eggs piled in it. They hadn't hatched, and there was no sign of the nest's owner nearby.

Before Germain got close, he sensed another person's presence in the nest and felt puzzled.

He wondered: Could it be Ging? Ging and his son Gon were supposed to meet again at the top of the World Tree in the future.

The man in the nest sensed Germain's presence and emerged from behind the eggs. But it wasn't Ging; it was a rugged young man with a crew cut.

He touched his nose and then pointed at Germain, asking loudly, "Are you here to check out the 'World Tree Birds' too?"

"No." Germain shook his head and looked at the rough young man, having already made up his mind. "I just came up to take a look."

"Oh—" The man nodded in understanding, then confidently extended his hand. "Nice to meet you. I'm Knuckle, a beast hunter like you."

It was indeed Knuckle.

Germain shook hands with Knuckle and asked curiously, "Do you know me?"

Knuckle shook his head and said loudly, "We've never met. But my teacher often mentioned your name. I was curious, so I looked into it."

Germain wondered, puzzled: His teacher is the one-star hunter, Sea Hunter Morel. But how does Morel know me, and why did he keep mentioning my name to Knuckle?
