Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The Board meeting

I stood in front of my full-length mirror, admiring my reflection. I had chosen a classy outfit for my meeting at my father's architectural company, one of America's top firms. I wore a tailored black blazer over a crisp white blouse, tucked into a high-waisted pencil skirt that hugged my curves in all the right places. My black pumps added a few inches to my height, and I had accessorized with a simple gold necklace and matching earrings. I looked every bit the part of a successful businesswoman.

As I entered my car and made my way to the office, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. I had worked hard to get where I was, and I was determined to make my father proud. When I arrived at the office, my assistant and bestfriend greeted me with a smile.

"Good morning, Diana," my assistant said. "The board member are waiting for you in the boardroom."

I nodded and made my way to the boardroom, where I was greeted by the board member. We discussed the next course of action after my father's death, and I listened intently, taking notes and offering my own suggestions.

Just as we were wrapping up the meeting, my mother, Mrs. Romano, entered the room. "Excuse me," she said, addressing the board member. "I need to speak with my daughter."

The board member nodded and left the room, leaving me alone with my mother. Mrs. Romano sat down next to me and took a deep breath before speaking.

"Diana," she began, "your father's last wish was for you to get married before you turn 25."

I was taken aback by her words. "What are you talking about?" I asked.

"Your father wanted you to be settled down and happy," she continued. "And I have already signed a contract with my best friend for you to marry her son, Rico Gonzales."

I felt like the wind had been knocked out of me. How could she do this without even consulting me? How could she make such an important decision about my life without even asking for my opinion?

"Mother," I said, trying to keep my voice steady. "How could you do this? How could you make such a decision without even talking to me?"

Mrs. Romano looked at me with sadness in her eyes. "I'm sorry, Diana," she said. "But it's what your father wanted."

I couldn't take it anymore. I stood up and stormed out of the room, ignoring the concerned looks from my colleagues as I passed them in the hallway.

My best friend and assistant Nicholas caught up with me as I reached the elevator. "Diana," he said, concern etched on his face. "What happened?"

But I couldn't bring myself to answer him. All I could think about was how betrayed I felt by my own mother.

As the elevator doors closed behind me, I felt tears prickling at the corners of my eyes. How was I going to get through this? How was I going to face a future that had been decided for me without any input from me?

The ride down to the lobby felt like an eternity as these thoughts swirled around in my head. When the doors finally opened and I stepped out into the bright sunshine, all I wanted to do was run away from it all.

I rushed into my car and drove to my favourite cafe 'Kreme Koffe', I ordered a cup and just looked at it I could not bring myself to drink it I was beyond confused how could my life go from being so great to being completely annoying

I rang my other best friend Daisy" My mother is making me marry Rico" I said into the phone, "no hello how are you doing, you are just going to yell into the phone, wait what did you just say ?" i took a deep breath a said " My mother is making marrying Rico gonzales" "what, no she cannot do that" she already signed the contract " I said feeling tired of it all " Fucking bullshit, send me your location I will be there in 5" she said, I placed my phone down and finally felt the urge to have my drink.
