Zack Wallace explained to Purple Summers that Alexander Summers had been seriously injured in the explosion and had been unconscious for over a month. When he finally woke up, he couldn't recognize anybody, not even recalling his own name.
The doctor said it was a post-concussion syndrome and that it would gradually improve.
Zack Wallace also thought the problem wasn't severe; it was merely amnesia, not a turn into mental retardation. He believed that if he could explain the situation to Alexander Summers and take over the remaining power, they could make a new start in Pearlpoint City.
Zack Wallace was optimistic about this and even arranged for someone to send specialty goods from overseas to Atra Blanc to help Alexander Summers wrap things up.
As time passed, Alexander Summers's health slowly recovered, and some of his memory came back, but Zack Wallace began to sense that something was wrong.
