Speaking of marriage proposals, Riley Montgomery felt a bit embarrassed.
"To be honest, I was really shocked at the time," Riley said with a bitter smile, "He was handsome and wealthy, a respected Justice, and I was just an ordinary nurse. Being proposed to by him really felt like a dream... like a pie falling from the sky."
Purple Summers asked, "What happened then? Did you accept his proposal?"
"Why not accept?" Riley sighed softly, "I couldn't find a reason not to... My family was overjoyed when they knew, saying I had made something of myself, and that it would mean a better future for my younger brother and sisters. But on the night before the wedding, for some reason, I felt especially anxious. I asked myself, do I love this man?"
Purple Summers listened intently.
"... In fact, I didn't know if I loved him; I just felt he was very excellent."
Riley looked at Purple Summers and smiled gently.
