Jacob Clark calmed down and first scanned the surroundings cautiously, fearing that Enna had a recording device hidden on her phone. Then, he quickly softened his voice, feigning affection and concern, "Enna, what are you talking about? How could I possibly bribe the doctor to do something to your mom? Who's been filling your head with nonsense?"
Enna had been observing his reaction, and when she saw the wariness in his eyes, she already knew the truth.
It was like a knife twisting in her heart.
Their father-daughter relationship had been cold and distant for over twenty years. She thought at worst, they'd simply be strangers to each other, but the man standing before her wasn't even human—he was a monster in human skin!
Still, she wanted to ask one more question.
"Why?"
Jacob's eyes flickered for a moment, but he didn't pause, "What do you mean, 'why'? Enna, who has been badmouthing me to you?"
