A single "but" tugged at so many hearts.
Everyone turned their attention to the doctor.
The doctor sighed before he began, "But, the patient fell from the third floor and broke her leg. I'm afraid she might not be able to stand in the future."
...
For a moment, the corridor fell silent.
Then suddenly, a sharp cry broke out again.
Alma Dixon, Adrienne's mother, sobbed, "Doctor, what did you just say?"
Joey Thompson's face was filled with shock as well.
The doctor, accustomed to life-and-death situations, was composed. He slowly said, "The patient's leg bone is fractured. We've done all we can. The likelihood of her being able to stand again is minimal... Please try to accept this."
After saying that, the doctor patted Alma Dixon on the shoulder.
"Make way, make way!"
Following the voice of the nurse, everyone was ushered out of the emergency room.
