Eve Thompson's eyes contracted slightly.
She stood on the steps, on a call with someone unknown, her face noticeably downcast.
Anthony Charlie, who had been waiting outside for her, clearly saw the seriousness etched across her face.
He lowered his eyes and patiently waited for her to finish her phone call and descend the stairs.
The man trailing behind her, realizing that she had ended her call, resumed the conversation he left off. "...I like staying at your house and I love the meals your mother cooks. You see, it saves money and trouble. Isn't it great?"
Eve Thompson continued to ignore him.
Anthony Charlie swerved slightly towards the edge of the car, and courteously opened the door for her, "Get in."
Eve moved forward a couple of steps and before she could get onto the car, Irvin Sharman, with the previous incident of being left behind in his mind, was the first to get in. To add insult to injury, he gloated, "Now you can't just leave me behind, can you?"
