Eve Thompson took the pendant hanging around her neck out from her clothes. It was a ruby ring which, at this moment, began to "beep" and the red, heart-shaped sensor light also lit up, flickering as though it were a beating heart.
Eve's heart uncontrollably began to beat in sync with the ring.
Yet after just a moment, the sound disappeared.
Her eyes dimmed, feeling as if a piece was missing from her heart.
With the rapid advancement of communication technology over the years, signal interference had also increased, so this ring, had inexplicably rung out more than once already.
In the grand building, the lobby wasn't crowded. A staff member approached and asked, "May I ask, are you Miss Thompson?"
Eve Thompson regained her senses.
She carefully put the ring back into her clothes and then looked at the staff member, "I'm sorry, yes that's me."
"Please follow me, our general manager is already waiting for you."
Eve followed the staff member into the elevator. It was not until she had gone upstairs that she suddenly reacted, "General Manager?"
Wasn't it Anthony Charlie who was looking for her?
The staff member nodded, standing outside the meeting room, pointing inside, "Our Investment Department's general manager is waiting for you."
A middle-aged man, around forty, came directly out to greet her, chuckling, "Miss Thompson, it's like this, we are very interested in the Thompson family's new project and have decided to invest in it. Did you bring the contract?"
Eve Thompson: ??
She stared perplexedly at the man standing in front of her, her hand moving to her bag.
The contract had always been in her bag, having never been taken out. How did he find her? Could it be... that the housekeeper had told Anthony Charlie, who then asked someone to find her?
-
On the top floor, Anthony Charlie had just put away the ring when his WhatsApp rang with a voice call.
Anthony Charlie casually picked up his phone and answered the call.
The voice of Oliver Charles came from the other end, "Bro, that ugly duckling must have her eyes on your money, right? She's getting close to you, definitely because she's after your money!"
Anthony Charlie had returned to his usual indifference. He remained silent and Oliver Charles chattered on, recounting everything that happened at school today.
After listening, Anthony Charlie frowned, "Illegitimate daughter?"
"Yeah, don't you know? You must not be deceived by her! Bro, I really hate illegitimate children, you know my dad... Never mind, let's drop it. Anyways, I just can't stand her!"
Anthony Charlie scoffed, although he didn't want to meddle, he also didn't want to see him being played like a fool, so he said indifferently, "You better wise up, don't let people make a fool of you!"
He intentionally didn't clarify the matter, not wanting to overly interfere in his life. Some things needed to be personally experienced in order to mature.
Oliver Charles was confused and was about to ask when the office door was knocked. The assistant came in, about to say something but hesitated.
Anthony Charlie hung up the voice call, "Speak."
Only then did the assistant begin, "Mr. Charlie, Miss Thompson is here."
"I asked her. It was the general manager of the Investment Department who called her to come and sign the contract. He said they want to invest in the Thompson family project... The old lady had specially called this morning to remind them."
Anthony Charlie's face instantly darkened.
From last night until this morning, she didn't mention the contract at all. He had thought she wasn't that shallow, but he didn't expect her to strike from his grandmother's side!
Had he been too kind to her, leading her to think she could do whatever she wanted?!
