The first to hear the sound, as he was preparing to go to school and passed by Peter Gingery's room doorway, was James Black. He remembered that when he entered the room, the first thing that came to his mind was, "This little miss from next door really knows how to stir things up."
Jane Sampson once again pretended not to hear James teasing her and glanced at the alarm clock on the bedhead cabinet.
She got excited all over again.
