Even in her high heels, Jane Sampson didn't fall behind and kept pace all the way until she re-entered the Emergency Room. The first thing she saw was the doctor.
"Where is my husband?" Jane Sampson asked breathlessly as she stood in the doorway.
"He's here, he's here," responded the nurse at the door, quickly making way for her to enter.
The doctors there also stepped aside, watching the woman in her formal dress enter, while muttering to themselves about how she looked somewhat familiar.
As soon as the deity-like doctor stepped away, Jane Sampson walked a few steps inside and immediately saw James Black lying on the sickbed.
He heard her footsteps, turned his head, and looked towards her.
Just that one glance.
Jane Sampson's tears began to fall silently.
