"Arrived?" James Black's voice, always devoid of discernible emotion, came through the mobile phone, followed by his typical dredging of old grievances, "I thought I'd be waiting until evenings again, before sleep, to get your call."
"How could that be? You even left me a note; I saw it and remembered!" Jane Sampson responded frankly.
She had indeed made the call promptly. Whether she remembered or how she came to think of it, were things that James Black would never know.
"Not bad," James Black praised Jane with a sentence before adding, "Grandpa and Grandma seem to miss you a lot. They said this morning that you should come have a meal with me at their place next time you return."
After a pause, James Black asked, "When do you think you can come back at the earliest?"
