After eating, Jane Sampson left Black Residence, hailed a cab, and went home. The housekeeper had cleaned the house during the day, so it was very tidy.
Having taken a shower and tidied up her stuff, Jane didn't call James Black until she was back in bed.
The phone went through, but after several rings, James didn't pick up.
Just as Jane was about to place her mobile phone back at the head of the bed and go to sleep, James's phone call came back.
As soon as she answered, his deep voice came through the phone with a brief question, "Jane?"
"Yeah, did you return to the guard team?" Jane asked, "I'm heading to Springtown early tomorrow!"
"On my way back to the guard team," James replied, but 'on my way' meant he was on a train back to Capital Province.
After answering, James paused before asking another question, "What time is your flight tomorrow morning?"
