The phone rang just as James Black was reluctantly eyeing the vegetables on the table with a pair of chopsticks, already lacking appetite, and wishing it were Jane Sampson's cooking instead.
The mobile phone screen lit up along with the ringtone, and he glanced at the caller, it was Peter Gingery. He answered slowly and leisurely.
"What's up?" His tone was unfriendly, even somewhat aggressive.
This instantly subdued the excitement in Peter Gingery, who couldn't help but cower a bit.
Yikes? What's with this mood? That's not right, is it?
Could it be because Jane Sampson changed her nickname and it set him off? Did he think Jane was being too showy?
Peter Gingery thought for a moment and decided it was best not to bring it up. What if his guess was right? Wouldn't that be stepping on a landmine?
"Nothing, nothing, I just dialed the wrong number by accident." Peter Gingery chuckled three times, "I meant to call Jane, but somehow ended up calling you by mistake."
