James Black had wanted to find an opportunity to ask Jane Sampson where she went this morning and what she had done, but before he even had the chance to ask, Jane brought it up herself.
Although James disliked Alexander Forest's chattering, he nonetheless enjoyed Jane's prattle, whether she talked about trivial matters or discussed something more serious. Even though James rarely joined in the conversation or responded, he listened carefully to every word she said.
Jane was in a good mood during lunch, her smile never leaving her face, and the tone of her voice was light and cheerful. While eating, she looked over at the roses on the chair beside her countless times.
Whenever she glanced over there, then looked back at James, the smile on her face would inevitably become even brighter and more radiant than just moments before.
