Norris Moore kept her head low as she spread the ointment over his wounds. The medication melted at her fingertips, providing a cool, slightly sticky sensation—it must have been soothing for the injuries. After emptying the nearly used-up bottle, she placed it back into the medicine box and lifted her gaze, only to see Trenton Smith looking down at her.
He had been watching her for an undetermined length of time, his emotions hidden in the depths. When Norris Moore met his gaze, all she could see was the reflection of her own face in his dark, deep-set eyes. Gazing into his eyes, she pursed her lips slightly and softly called out to him, "Trenton Smith."
Just uttering his name filled her with a bitter sweetness and the urge to cry.
The thing separating them wasn't simply love or hate.
They just simply... couldn't be together anymore.
Trenton Smith looked at her and then smiled, reaching out to ruffle her hair and said gently, "Go and rest."
