Trenton Smith lowered his gaze and watched her grit her teeth yet too afraid to speak. His eyes were cold, his fingertips slowly sliding across her lips, and he asked in a low voice, "Let me ask you one more time -- do you want to break off the engagement with Rufus Swallow?"
His tone was dark and eerie, like the final judgment for her.
Norris Moore bit her lip and remained silent.
The man looked at her for a moment, then suddenly chuckled softly and stepped back, releasing her.
His smile contained a touch of indifference as he said, "Well, don't regret it."
Norris pressed her lips together as she watched him turn and leave the room.
His retreating figure cast an endless shadow and brought chills.
Norris opened her mouth, but still couldn't call out to him.
She had a myriad of questions, but it was enough.
He was clearly not going to answer her.
