Norris Moore gripped her chopsticks, slightly lifted her head to look at Treton Smith sitting on the sofa.
The man was smoking with his head lowered. She pulled her gaze back and quietly asked, "Rufus, has he caused you any trouble?"
When she came in and saw a wound at the corner of Tretont Smith's mouth, she worried whether Rufus likewise had sustained injuries that were invisible.
"No." He picked a rib for her and said, "Eat."
Norris Moore sighed lightly and then nodded, taking a bite of her meal.
She ate calmly.
After lunch, Rufus Swallow urged her to go upstairs and rest.
Norris Moore stood in the bedroom doorway and watched Rufus hesitating to speak. She shook her head and said, "Enough. Anyway, this baby... I don't even know if I can give birth to it. Still so many months to go, it's hard to say. If I were to miscarry later on, then miscarrying now wouldn't make any difference."
