Trenton Smith arrived quite late.
Norris Moore had already eaten dinner and dozed off in bed. She didn't know how long it had been when she heard the sound of a car engine stopping in the courtyard.
She was awakened by the noise and sat up groggily in bed. The clock hanging on the wall showed that it was already 11:30 pm.
She went downstairs barefoot and saw the butler holding an umbrella over Trenton, protecting him as he walked in from the pitch-black rain.
His dark suit was studded with drops of rain, and his hair was slightly damp. Upon seeing Norris standing at the staircase, he walked over, picked her up, carried her to the sofa, and then ordered a servant to bring a pair of slippers.
She was wearing a loose white silk nightgown, with her soft hair cascading down. Her face still held a trace of sleepiness. Trenton warmed her feet and said, "Why aren't you wearing slippers again?"
