When Trenton returned from the company, it was already very dark.
The servants greeted him as he entered the house.
"Mr. Smith, have you had dinner yet?"
Taking off his suit jacket and handing it to the maid, the man said lightly, "Not yet."
"I'll go tell the cook to heat up a meal."
Trenton nodded and then, as if remembering something, asked, "Where is she?"
"Miss Moore had dinner and went upstairs to rest."
As Trenton unbuttoned his cuffs, his eyes lowered, lost in thought. After a moment, he stood up and headed upstairs.
The servants downstairs remained silent, each finding something else to do.
Though they didn't fully understand the situation between Trenton and Norris, they could see the twisted nature of the couple's relationship.
Pushing open the bedroom door, Trenton saw Norris lying on his bed, curled up under the covers, asleep.
