Norris Moore suddenly burst into laughter, turning her head to look at Alex, as if she'd just heard a funny joke: "Alex, do I look that cheap?"
Alex pressed his lips together and raised his hand, gently pressing Norris's face into his chest.
"Norris, I just... feel really sorry for you." His voice was hoarse.
He truly felt sorry for her.
This girl he'd pampered for years had been mistreated by another man.
He wanted to take her away, but he knew that Norris couldn't leave.
So all he could do was stay and keep her company.
But the pain in his heart was unbearable.
He couldn't bear to see her suffer at the hands of another man.
Norris leaned against his chest, listening to his steady heartbeat. She felt her own heart contracting slightly with every word he spoke, the pain incessant and unending.
