Chapter 49 - Ch-49: A Kingdom on Edge

As the hot air balloon approached the Royal palace, panic swept through the palace guards. They hastily notched arrows and drew their bows, aiming at the strange flying contraption that defied their understanding. The courtyard below was a flurry of activity as soldiers rushed to get a clear shot.

The tension in the air was palpable as the archers released their arrows. The projectiles sailed through the sky, but the hot air balloon continued to ascend, just out of reach. The guards watched in awe and disbelief as their arrows fell harmlessly to the ground.

Inside the balloon, Vijay and his companions could see the chaos below. They marveled at how their unconventional mode of transport had left the palace guards perplexed. It was a moment of triumph and relief, knowing that they had successfully reached the Royal palace without encountering any resistance.

The people in the palace courtyard continued to stare at the receding hot air balloon, their expressions a mix of bewilderment and amazement. The balloon continued its descent, appearing from the sky as Vijay and his party headed toward their destination.

As the hot air balloon descended rapidly towards the Royal palace, panic and alarm took hold of those within the palace walls. Guards and archers readied their bows and arrows, their faces etched with worry as they watched the approaching airborne intruders.

Vijay, standing in the basket of the balloon, realized the perilous situation they were in. He knew they had to make the palace guards understand that they weren't hostile. In a desperate attempt to prevent any violence, he began to shout his name repeatedly, hoping that his identity would be recognized and the attack would cease.

The guards, caught between their duty to protect the palace and the unexpected sight of a hot air balloon descending upon them, hesitated for a moment. Arrows were notched and bows were drawn, but as Vijay's name echoed through the air, some guards exchanged uncertain glances.

It was a pivotal moment. As recognition spread among the palace guards, their arrows remained undrawn, and the tension in the air began to dissipate. They made way for the descending balloon, creating a safe landing space.

However, the rapid descent of the balloon had its consequences. With the fuel exhausted, it descended with increasing speed. When it finally touched the ground, it was far from a graceful landing. The basket hit the earth with a jolt, causing those inside to be thrown off balance.

Vijay, the spy, and the archer, despite being shaken, managed to leap out of the basket with agility. They landed on their feet, their adrenaline-fueled reflexes saving them from harm.

Vaishakhnandan, on the other hand, couldn't navigate the landing as gracefully. He was unprepared for the abrupt descent, and with a less-than-dignified thud, he plopped down onto his backside. A loud cry of surprise and discomfort escaped his lips.

The palace guards, who had been poised for battle only moments ago, couldn't help but be taken aback by the unanticipated scene. Laughter and amusement rippled through their ranks as they watched the Mantri, a high-ranking official, sitting on the ground with a bewildered expression.

Vijay, still in the midst of the chaos, rushed to his father's side, offering a reassuring smile while extending a helping hand. It was a lighthearted moment, a brief respite from the tension and confusion that had gripped the palace.

The room was dimly lit, with flickering candlelight casting dancing shadows across the faces of those gathered within. The Mantri, Vaishakhnandan, sat at one end of a long wooden table, flanked by his son Vijay, the spy, and the anxious expressions of King Rajendra and Queen Chandrika.

The news had just reached their ears—the audacious journey undertaken by Vijay, the hot air balloon flight, and their abrupt arrival within the palace grounds had left them all bewildered. The King's voice broke the silence, his tone a mixture of incredulity and concern.

"How were they able to get past the borders and so quickly stop the paths of transportation with such precision and speed? It is a seemingly impossible task," King Rajendra mused, his furrowed brow revealing his genuine perplexity.

The Queen, her eyes narrowing in contemplation, added, "Indeed, it is a feat that defies explanation. Such an intrusion into our territory is unprecedented.".

Vijay, thoughtful and perceptive, concurred with his father's concerns. The scale of the foreign soldiers' presence and their strategic blockades implied careful planning. However, the spy's recent report indicated that these actions had been set in motion only weeks ago. This contradiction perplexed them all.

"It's indeed peculiar, Your Majesty," Vijay began, his mind racing. "The level of preparation and knowledge displayed by these foreign forces suggests an intricate understanding of our vulnerabilities. Yet, the spy's information indicates that this plan was executed relatively recently. It's as if they had prior knowledge of our weaknesses."

The Mantri, deeply troubled by this revelation, chimed in, "My son speaks wisely. This incongruity raises the specter of a possible mole within our kingdom, someone having large enough troops to cover whole Vidya and ally of the enemies, providing them insider information."

The Queen's frown deepened as she absorbed the possibility of betrayal from within her kingdom. She had long been aware of the need for vigilance, having discreetly stationed spies beside individuals who might be considered suspects. However, the recent lack of significant movements from these individuals troubled her, as without that she couldn't think of someone who can plan such an act.

She spoke, her voice laced with concern, "This revelation demands our immediate attention. We cannot afford to let a traitor compromise the safety of our kingdom. We must reevaluate our suspects and redouble our efforts as they may be very well hidden to get past our noses for such long periods and to uncover the enemies."

The room fell into a contemplative silence as they all grappled with the gravity of the situation and the urgency of their task.

The King's expression darkened as he contemplated the implications of betrayal from within. "We cannot underestimate this threat. Swift action is imperative. We must investigate this matter thoroughly."

Just as they delved into discussing possible courses of action, Princess Kundavai entered the room abruptly. Her eyes were wide with excitement, and her voice trembled as she exclaimed, "What is that thing?" She pointed vigorously at the hot air balloon they had used for their journey.

The unexpected interruption momentarily shifted their focus to the unusual contraption. Vijay, ever the innovator, couldn't help but smile faintly at his fiancée's curiosity amidst such pressing matters.
