"Why should I?" Levi asked with a seemingly unfeeling tone. His question, backed with the gesture of his fists curled up into a ball that could easily take the life of a normal human with a single hit, sent shivers down Kadal's spine as he visibly trembled in fear.
The creature tried to speak, he tried to answer the question that was posed to him in a manner that would not piss of the human further. He pondered his response for a while, but then he realized that he could not come up with a valid answer to the question.
'Why should i be spared? Well, because....' He could not come up with an answer that would not be completely invalid or make Levi even more enraged.
"Well, I am waiting..." Levi said, pressuring the beast further with a tinge of impatience in his tone. He was also well aware of the nature of his question and so he knew that there was no way for Kadal to give a good enough answer.
Why was he playing around like this instead of outrightly killing the beast? Simple, it was just his way of returning the favour of being looked down on. He was truly a spiteful individual.
Seeing that there was no way around the very tricky question, Kadal reverted back to his earlier tactic- begging for his dear life.
"Please...." He muttered to Levi's hearing.
But before he could even continue speaking, he was cut off by a slightly annoyed Levi.
"Please? Seriously, you can not even answer a damn question of mine, yet you still have the guts to beg me." Levi said, his brow raised in a questioning manner. The tinge of annoyance in his voice was not missed by the stinger as he trembled even more due to the fact that he had slightly pissed the human off.
'Don't you think this is a bit much?.....you are truly despicable.' Grim made known his thoughts concerning the matter, he was right though. Even if the stinger had made attempts on his life, this could still be considered going a bit far by a good few, but Levi could not care less.
Kadal was about to say something again, but Levi once again did not let him and cut him off, this time before he even began.
"You see, I am the type of guy that likes to repay my debts with a little extra." Levi started up his speech with an utter lie. To which, Grim laughed out loudly, but Levi just ignored the incorporeal existence.
"And I do not think it's a bluff when I say that I owe you big time." Levi said and propped his fist up by imbuing more aether into it.
"Wait! Please, mercy! Have mercy! Please, I beg of you. I promise to serve you for the rest of my life! I would pledge my allegiance to you! So please, forgive me." Kadal pleaded like a mad man, forgetting all his pride and honour as a mana beast. It did not matter what he had to do, he would gladly do it if his life would be spared.
That was why he failed to realise the blunder in his own words. What was the point of having a physically crippled and relatively weak mana beast as a companion? Yes, the wolves had the elixir pond that could heal him up right away, but Kadal could not know that and in fact, did not know about the existence of the pond that could heal all external injuries and cure quite a bit of fatigue. The fact bore witness to the validity of Kadal's words.
It proved that Kadal was just spouting utter rubbish due to fear. Of course, this was not a problem as Levi could just use a blood contract to bind the former to himself, but what was the use of such a low level Mana beast?
Kadal was absolutely worthless, especially to Levi who very big plans for himself, and as such, the answer was deemed invalid. Levi did not even consider it!
"I hope you regret looking down on me in the after life, bastard." Levi said cooly before mercilessly throwing his arm forward in a punching fashion. His fist soared through mid air at superhuman speeds before landing squarely in Kadal's rib area.
*BAM!*
The sound of fist pounding flesh was heard as Levi's fist crashed into and through Kadal's rib area. Blood spewed from the wound as Levi released his grip on the stingers neck, allowing his body to fall to the ground without any form of resistance.
Levi watched without remorse as Kadal struggled and wiggled on the ground in a convulsing manner for a few seconds more before finally going limp. He finally gave in to death.
Dispersing the aether that powered aether skin, Levi heaved a sigh of relief before saying, "Phew. Finally, that's over with."
He looked up to the sky in order to determine the time before realizing that the sun had already retreated beyond the horizon. The sky was now a light orange, signifying that night would soon fall and he was still a good ways from the den.
"Shit! I got carried away because of these bastards, It's already getting late." Levi said in a hurried tone, he had just realized his own grave blunder.
Making his way to where the wounded hurricane wolf was, he ignored the half shocked, half terrified expression on the latter's face and just hoisted him up his back.
He gave his permission to Grim to activate aether skin so as to increase his speed, he needed to make it back to the den before it got too late, so full speed was the only way to go. He also inquired if Grim could activate more than one technique at a time. After all, even if he was moving at full speeds, his progress would undoubtedly be impeded if he had to deal with more run ins like this one.
Grim responded affirmatively, but Levi did not even have the time to be surprised by Grim's prowess and just activated Aether cloak as well.
He was now using the two most difficult aether techniques all at once, and it was all thanks to the individual known as Grim. He instantly commenced the race to the dan.
*FWOOSH!*
Levi practically tore through the air as he covered the distance at an astounding speed which put even a speed oriented mana beast like Swift to shame. Aether cloak was also active and it reduced the number of incidents that he had to deal with to the barest minimum, as he had only run in to a herd of weak hyena like monsters. Creatures which he easily made quick work out of.
As he progressed further and further towards his destination, he could not help but think of how much faster he would have been able to go if he did not have to carry this fucking mana beast that weighed a little more than him.
More times than not, he had been tempted to just discard the creature and continue his journey by his lonesome, but he could not do it due to the repercussions which he would most definitely have to face.
His mind also wondered to his personal storage rune, where he kept the physical form of the shadow grimoire. He had thoughts like: 'Can't I just put him in there? What could possibly happen if I did that?'
But Grim did not waste any time in sticking a knife through his plans.
'What could possibly happen? Oh nothing much. He would just die from suffocation due to lack of oxygen in about ten...twenty seconds at most.' Grim said, the sarcasm practically oozed from his tone, but the fact that he had a point was undeniable.
There was no guarantee that the rune's pocket dimension had any oxygen as he had never experimented on this before. So far, he had only used the space to conveniently keep his shadow grimoire, a terrible underuse of such a valuable and coveted resource. Although the chances of oxygen being present were extremely low, Levi still regretted his misuse of the pocket dimension.
He tried coming up with other ideas, but his mind drew a complete blank and Grim was busy right now as he was multitasking both aether skin and aether cloak, so Levi had no choice than to just suck it up.
At least, Swift did not bother him by trying to start up a conversation. Levi was usually not a sociable person, but a conversation with a creature that had tried to kill him just a few hours ago would annoy him to no end.
*Rumble*Rumble*
The sudden noise of the earth trembling drew Levi out of his thoughts as he instinctively whipped his head in different locations all around him to try and determine the source of the peculiar noise.
It sounded like a herd of animals were marching forward in the noisiest way possible, but that could not be right. The sun had long since given way to the Moon and night had befallen the land, so he could not believe that something was leading a march at this time.
But then again, he was in a forest filled with mana beasts of all kinds. Who knew what kind of habits and ecosystem they possessed.
*Rumble*Rumble*
There came the sound again. This time, Levi stopped moving for a moment in order to determine the source of the sound. It was a precautionary measure to prevent problems in the future.
Focusing deeply on the direction of the noise, an endeavor which was greatly aided by his exponentially enhanced senses, Levi managed to discern the direction of a noise in a few short moments.
Turning his body to face roughly the south west, Levi stood at the ready and glared into the distance all the while mentally preparing himself for whatever was about to appear. A casual observer would be utterly confused due to the seriousness and intensity which Levi's eyes radiated towards seemingly nothing.
He waited patiently and intently for what was to come. He refused to let his guard down for even a second as he did not want a repetition of what happened last time. After all, those who failed to learn from history were dommed to repeat it.
It took almost two minutes before visible figures began appearing in Levi's line of sight, but then he could not help but be totally dumbfounded at the abnormality that lay in front of him...or more appropriately, was coming towards him.
