15 years earlier...
There's a famous legend in our town:
"It is said that after every two hundred years on the night of full moon, a lady clad in a black medieval dress walks in the forest while holding a, Lantern illuminating white light. Some say Lady clad in black dress has a veil that covers her face and some say it's the hood and the black cloth. It is said that even through the veil of darkness you can see red ruby eyes. The myth goes like this;"
"Beware of the mysterious beauty in black
And do not look her in the eyes
For her face is shrouded in shadow
But her eyes shine like red rubies in darkness
And if thou art unworthy
Thou shalt be pulled deep into the pits beneath
Where the fires burn and the devils howl
And thy soul shall be given to the pits of hell
If thou art not worthy to gaze upon her beauty."
A lady in her mid thirties, with gentle gaze and soft voice completed telling her story to the young boy lying in bed. It was already night and moonlight passing through the curtains lit up the room.
Lady looked at the little child Infront of her, covered in the blanket and he was pulling it even close now.
The boy's blond hair and amber eyes looked up at the old lady with a gaze both innocent and fearful.
His wide eyes were filled with the wonder and curiosity of youth.
"N-Nana, c-can I a-ask you something?"
Lady nodded gently at the little child who seemed to be a little scared, which was a rare sight considering it was him, the most mischievous one out of his siblings.
The boy sighed and spoke;
"Nana, I am worried..."
"My child, there is nothing to worry. This is nothing but an old myth. You know, there is no such thing as supernatural."
"Mmm... But still if it's real then I am in real crises...."
"My child, it's only a myth but what's these crises you speak of?"
Child crossed his arms while sitting up and spoke while looking up;
"I am afraid that she might fall for me if she sees me. After all I am quite cute and handsome.... But most sad thing is that I might make fun of her. Beauty isn't everything...As for her eyes...what type of contact lenses do you think she wears?"
"...."
"I...Contacts? Forget it and Y-You will do what?"
"Come on Nana, I might laugh at her for being so weird to the point she had to roam in the dark of night carrying a latern. Can she not even afford a torch? Tsk tsk, I will have to reject her even though I am such a gentleman. Poor thing, world is indeed unfair."
Lady was flabbergasted for a moment and then sighed;
"My goodness.... Don't worry Glyn, I am pretty sure even the demons wouldn't want you."
"Hehe, but my Nana loves me right."
Glynn showed a toothy grin at which Lady smiled gently and spoke softly;
"My oh my, my little demon child. You are, to put it mildly, an arrogant and egotistical little brat. But despite your numerous flaws, I suppose I still love you..."
Lady continued while raising her left eyebrow;
"Maybe... but don't think for a second that this means I'm going to put up with your nonsense. Understand, kiddo? But who am I kidding?"
"You'll probably continue to make life difficult and be a pain in my rear. I just hope you'll remember that I'm always here for you no matter what."
"Ooh, so you do secretly love me Nana? That's sweet! Well, I knew it... it's obvious when you look at me with those big, mean eyes! And don't worry, I'm not going to change my mischievous ways. That's just part of who I am!... I'm going to keep making your life miserable! Bwahaha!"
Lady sighed and lulled this mischievous but cute child to sleep. After some time the boy fell asleep. The Lady looked at the boy and sighed as she thought to herself;
'My child, my Glyn, life won't be easy for you... It will be too harsh, but considering your personality I believe you will survive. After all that's how I raised you.'
Lady got up and gazed outside the window. She saw a shadowy figure afar holding a latern. Lady closed the curtains and went out.
A mysterious black figure stood before, its red ruby eyes peering from beneath the shadow of its dark hood. With a slight twitch of its lips, the figure formed a knowing smirk, hidden from view by its ominous cloth.
Its gaze was fixated on the distance, its purpose unknown. As still as stone. It stood, quietly observing and waiting. Its red ruby eyes glimmering in the eerie night's glow, a foreboding omen... a tragedy of the future.
The Lady came out and sighed as she spoke, her gaze drifting towards the home of her children.
"Alas... The time has come,"
She stated solemnly.
"Rest well my children, and rest well my child Glynn."
Her words indicated a sense of sorrow,
She felt a sense of despair and melancholy, knowing that the Glyn's fate had been sealed and that she could not protect the young boy from the challenges that lay ahead.
"Glynn, the fate has chosen you to bear it's despairing claws."
The Lady thought as her expression turned bitter.
"My child, I pray and wish you well, in your journey ahead."
She said a soft, silent prayer for Glyn, knowing there was not much else she could do to prepare him for his uncertain future.
The Lady then addressed the mysterious figure with a deep frown and disdainful tone, perhaps even a hint of disgust in her words.
"How weak and pathetic, you chose a mere poor child.... Truly pathetic and undeserving of power and prestige."
She scoffed, as if the figure's actions were contemptible and weak-willed. She likely saw the figure as unworthy of her respect, having chosen to target a defenseless child rather than face a true and worthy opponent.
She knew that there was nothing she could do to avoid the fate. Her words were cold and harsh. Even if she were to die for disrespecting a mysterious powerful figure, she would have no regrets. She would resent to those figures with all her heart. After all, it was her child who was going to suffer.
"..."
The days went on peacefully and just like that fifteen years passed away. Many children were now adults and mostly left thier home. They had their own family over the years.
.....
The lady that raised her children was now in her fifties and was watering the plants as she thought to herself;
"Stay safe and happy, my children wherever you are now... Glynn... my child... I wish you well. Please don't ever return."
"Grandmother Grace, Let us head back inside. The lunch is ready."
Grace's thoughts were interrupted by the young girl. Grace smiles as she follows the child back in.
