Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: The Contagious Paralyzed Face

The sky was just getting light, and the first rays of dawn broke through the darkness of the earth.

"Ah--"

Evelyn Sherman woke up in shock, abruptly sitting up in bed, and looked around her shabby rental house, only to realize that it had been a dream.

She held her face in her hands, breathing heavily.

How could she dream of Chester Yale coming to her house to catch her...

Remembering the text message from last night, she couldn't sleep at all.

After tidying up herself, she started packing her luggage.

Chester Yale didn't say someone would pick her up, so she would go there by herself.

Evelyn Sherman bit her lips, only took a few clothes and work stuff, packed them into a suitcase, and exited her apartment.

She went downstairs, hailed a taxi, and reported the address shown on her cell phone.

All the way, the driver was enthusiastically chatting with her, but Evelyn Sherman remained absent-minded, laughingly watching the car approach Chester Yale's villa, feeling that her heart was about to jump out of her chest.

Just thinking of meeting Chester Yale later, her whole body started to sweat coldly, her fingers couldn't help but keep digging into her palms.

"Miss, here we are." The driver greeted her warmly, then got out of the car to take her suitcase from the trunk, and handed it to her.

"Thank you, Master." Evelyn Sherman took the suitcase, looking at the incredibly luxurious villa district in front of her, her body stiffened.

Especially thinking that she would see Chester Yale soon, she couldn't even smile anymore.

As she watched the taxi leave, she reluctantly pulled her suitcase and walked into the villa.

Standing outside the gate, one could see the neatly arranged holly in the yard, lined in rows, like sentinel guards.

The fountain in the middle of the yard was on, its splashes shimmering in mid-air, as lustrous as plump pearls.

The water splashed into the pool, creating a curtain of water that, under the dawn light, was dazzling.

The gate was tightly closed, no security guards were outside, and no one was in sight.

Evelyn Sherman stopped walking, hesitated for a few seconds, put down her suitcase, and pressed the doorbell.

She stood quietly outside waiting.

Hearing footsteps coming from the villa, her nerves tensed up.

Upon seeing the fifty-year-old elderly man in front of her, she was slightly taken aback.

"Miss Sherman, I am the butler of the villa, please follow me." The butler's introduction was clear and swift; he took Evelyn Sherman's suitcase and turned around to walk in.

Once Evelyn Sherman snapped out of it, she found herself lagging far behind.

Do all the people around Chester Yale have the same deadpan faces as him?

His Executive Assistant is like that, and now even the butler of the villa is like that...

Evelyn Sherman grumbled to herself, but unconsciously broke into a jog, catching up with the butler.

In her opinion, the people around Chester Yale were all in cahoots with him. Maybe the butler's cold attitude towards her was Chester Yale's idea as well.

As she entered the villa's living room, she slowed down slightly.

The enormous living room with its European-style decoration and extravagant leather sofas, the famous paintings that were obviously genuine...

The overwhelming luxurious atmosphere hit her, giving her an indescribable feeling.

She stood there, her palms tightening involuntarily.

"Miss Sherman, your room is upstairs." The butler spoke for the second time, looking at the stunned Evelyn, and directly carried her suitcase upstairs.

Evelyn Sherman's eyes flickered and she hurriedly followed.

Upstairs was very quiet.

It was the kind of ice-cold silence.

Yet, the same level of luxury prevailed.
