Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Let me go, I'm not a thief!

The lights in the Office Room dimmed, and the silent space was imbued with a trace of gloominess.

Evelyn Sherman hid in the bookcase, her mind still pondering who Chester Yale had just said he wanted dead. Suddenly, the room went quiet, and she quickly came to her senses, looking outside.

Only after confirming that there was no one left in the room did she cautiously push open the cabinet door and crawl out.

With the contract tightly clutched in her hand, Evelyn looked like a thief, not even daring to breathe forcefully as she carefully moved towards the door, preparing to leave first.

"Beep, beep, beep——"

Evelyn had taken just two steps forward when suddenly a piercing alarm rang in her ears.

Her nerves tensed as she anxiously glanced around.

What happened, why did the alarm suddenly go off?

With a bang, the door to the Office Room was pushed open, and a group of security guards suddenly poured in from outside, surrounding her in a circle. The next second, she was caught by a security guard.

In less than half a minute, Evelyn looked somewhat dazed at the security guards' leader as he reported to his superior.

"Mr. CEO, the thief has been captured."

Thief? Was he talking about her?

"What are you doing? Let me go, I'm not a thief!" Evelyn wanted to explain but was pushed down onto the table, her hands twisted behind her back.

The lead security guard stepped forward, found the contract in her hand, and raised an eyebrow coldly.

"Both the person and the stolen goods are now in your possession. Whether you are a thief or not could be clarified with the police at the Police Station!"

"I'm not a thief, I swear. I just wanted to get my stuff back. Please believe me!" Evelyn hurriedly explained, her face turning red.

Her petite body tried to stand up from the table several times, but she was held down by the security guard and unable to move, about to go crazy.

She hadn't destroyed the contract yet. She couldn't be taken as a thief at this moment...

Evelyn lifted her head, and her eyes fell on the bookcase where she had hidden.

Her sight was suddenly filled with Chester Yale's cold face, and his eyes intentionally or unintentionally sweeping over the bookcase...

Suddenly, a white light flashed in her mind.

When she came in, the door to the Office Room had not been closed, and the contract was conveniently placed on the table, as if meant for her.

Did he already know that she was hiding in the bookcase?

As soon as he left, the alarm went off, so...

"I want to see Chester Yale!" Evelyn tried hard to hide the panic on her face, straightened her waist and said firmly.

"The CEO doesn't have the spare time to see you. You'd better think about how to confess to the police later." The security guard picked up Evelyn and pushed her towards the door.

"I want to see Chester Yale. All you need to do is pass on the message. As for whether he'll see me or not, let him answer me himself." Evelyn grabbed the door frame, refusing to leave.

Chester Yale had allowed her to enter the Office Room, and maybe he really wanted to return the contract to her; it was all just a misunderstanding.

She couldn't think too negatively about him; it must have been a misunderstanding.

"The CEO is in a meeting now and has left the Security Department in charge of handling this matter. Even if you stall for another two hours, it will be useless."

"..."

Clearly, Chester Yale was unwilling to see her. Surrounded by so many security guards, would she still be able to retrieve the contract?

Evelyn stood there in despair, her fingers digging tightly into the door frame.

Suddenly, a figure appeared in front of her, blocking the light in her eyes.

In her sight, there was a pair of black leather shoes...

Evelyn's eyes lit up, and she excitedly raised her head, "Chester Yal..."

Seeing the person standing in front of her, the last word got stuck in her throat, and her gaze dimmed.
