The man reached for her hand again and, in the next second, his brows furrowed even tighter, "Your hands are freezing; how long have you been outside?"
Amelia's expression was a bit vacant, with a hint of shock, "For a while now."
Daniel's dark brows knitted together so intensely that the creases could nearly trap words, as he pinched her chin and asked, "Why are you freezing out there? What if you get sick? What happened?"
She was fine when he left last night. How could she look like a mistreated little wife who's died, her face full of grievance, after he'd been away for just one day?
Leaning down to look closely into her eyes, he asked in a deep voice, "Have you been crying? Who has upset you?"
Amelia finally eased out of that overwhelming emotion and pushed his face with her hand, "I was just looking at the lights; why are you making such a big deal out of it?"
He caught her hand in his, kissed her lips lightly, and then stared into her eyes again, asking, "Really?"
