Amelia hesitated for a moment, realizing that her question was a bit sudden. She then handed him the car key she had been holding in her hand. "You're overthinking it. I just wanted to tell you that it's hard to get a car here from my house at this time. If you're going back to the mountain resort, you can use my car."
He glanced at the car key, didn't take it, but stepped forward, whispering, "You're even offering me a ride. Do you really want me to go back to the mountain resort?"
The man's tall figure blocked the light, casting her completely in the shadows. Amelia felt his breath coming down upon her head and stepped back. "Where you want to go is up to you. You helped me today, so I'm lending you my car as a token of my gratitude."
Daniel Cooper looked deeply into her eyes, smiled, and said, "Then I'll take Ms. Foster's car for a spin."
As soon as he spoke, Amelia felt a void in her palm, followed by a void in her heart as she slowly pursed her lips.
