"Don't worry, mom, my uncle doesn't mean it like that. He just wants me to ask Sophia Parker why she gave up being a perfectly good president's wife to dabble in illegal activities," Amelia said.
Mrs. Gardner laughed, "Well, your uncle is quite interesting. He's oblivious to what his own wife has been up to."
Amelia knew she was blunt and since she needed a favor, she didn't mind the sarcasm in the woman's tone.
Upon arrival at the prison, Mrs. Gardner immediately slipped into her role as the Director's wife. The Prison Warden personally led her into the VIP Room, then had Amelia brought to meet Sophia Parker.
However, when Amelia saw her, she almost didn't recognize her.
Sophia was in prison garb, her hair cut short and messy, with injuries on her face.
Her appearance was bruised and battered, signs she's been beaten.
She was a far cry from the intimidating, regally dressed president's wife she once was.
