It wasn't until the woman hung up the phone that he stood still at the door.
The chandelier in the living room wasn't turned on, and it was somewhat dim. When Amelia got up to pour some water, she suddenly noticed a dark shadow standing at the door, and she screamed in shock.
Daniel Cooper raised his hand and turned on the chandelier.
The room instantly became bright, and upon seeing his face, Amelia covered her chest and complained, "What are you doing standing at the door without coming in when you get back? Do you know that you scared me to death?"
Without even taking off his shoes, Daniel strode over, picked her up, and pressed his ear to her heart to listen to her pounding heartbeat. He whispered, "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you."
Amelia came out of his embrace, handed him the quilt with a tight face, and said, "Pour me some water."
She bossed him around with such confidence.
