Seeing the woman's shocked expression, Mason Hawkins realized what he had just said and quickly laughed it off to ease the awkwardness, "I was just making a joke to help you relax a bit. You're a medical student too, you should understand, right?"
Amelia thought she didn't really understand.
But she just smiled and got into the car.
There was no back seat in the sports car, so she sat in the passenger seat.
Mason Hawkins started the engine and asked while turning the steering wheel, "Have you called Daniel? He couldn't make it back there, he must be anxious by now."
Amelia was about to ask too, "Where did he go?"
Mason Hawkins briefly explained the situation, "Daniel was well-liked by his superior during his military service; he was treated like a son, so he has to wait until the funeral is over to come back."
Amelia nodded, "That's understandable."
