The scene finally quieted down, and Benjamin White immediately apologized with satisfaction, "It was a misunderstanding that caused laughter. Thank you all for taking the time to attend the reception."
Everyone looked at each other with sighs, as all the people who came today were shrewd and could see that today's farce was a plot by Mr. White to take advantage of someone, but he ultimately ended up losing out.
Feeling embarrassed, he was eager to send the guests away and end the gathering as soon as possible.
Just then, a bold onlooker suddenly spoke up among the crowds, "Since the matter has been cleared up, does Mr. White's previously proposed bet still count?"
Benjamin White frowned instantly; he had been worried that someone would mention the bet and was anxious to dismiss the guests. Annoyed, he looked toward the voice's direction and saw a person he did not recognize from Ashton at all.
