The door to the operating theatre opened.
"Dad," Amelia immediately got up and rushed to the slowly emerging gurney, staring tearfully at the silent figure beneath the white blanket, "Doctor, my father..."
"The operation was very successful." The lead surgeon was a foreign man who answered her in broken Chinese before directing the other two doctors to swiftly wheel the gurney into the intensive care ward.
"Thank you so much." Amelia's suspended heart finally settled back into place. She quickly thanked them and hurriedly followed behind.
She followed all the way to the entrance of the ward. She was left outside, separated by a glass pane, watching as doctors and nurses fixed monitoring devices to her father's body. Soon enough, the small screen showed waves of steady heartbeat.
After what seemed like an eternity, the doctors went out and Daniel Cooper conversed with them in English, asking about the specifics of the post-operation condition.
