Daniel Cooper lifted his hand to pinch her chin, his eyes mocking, "To get rid of me, you actually pushed me toward another woman, you're that eager, huh?"
Amelia sneered, "So what? Are only you, the official, allowed to set fires while the common folk can't even light a lamp?"
If he had only kept a mistress outside, she might have been heartbroken, but since he harbored a murderer, she grew to hate him.
"Very well, very well indeed."
He said indifferently, "Ten years ago, I wronged you, and all these years it's been me clinging onto you. It's not unjust for you to be annoyed with me, to resent me, and I deserve to endure your revenge. Rest assured, from this day forward, I won't bother you anymore."
Having said this, he withdrew his hand, let go of her, and turned to leave.
