Lyra Smith shook her head with a silent smile.
Iris Mitchell observed all of Lyra's reactions and said with a touch of heartache, "I forgot about the great changes that have happened in your family. This is a wound that has not yet healed for you, and I inadvertently touched your scar."
Lyra did not get angry nor show any emotions that she shouldn't have. She calmly replied, "It's all in the past."
"Alright, let's not talk about it then." Iris waved her hand, and a waiter quickly approached with champagne.
Iris took two glasses of champagne from the tray and handed one to Lyra. "Actually, I thought you wouldn't come tonight."
Lyra accepted the champagne and brushed her ear with her other hand, "How could I not come? I put a lot of thought into choosing your birthday gift, I don't know if you like it or not."
