Lyra walked over to Gregory and squatted down to take the phone from his hand. The call was still going on, so she turned on the speakerphone, "How was it? Did I do a great job?"
The person on the phone responded, "Mm."
Lyra's proud smile had just crept onto her face when the person on the other end of the phone said, "However, in the face of absolute danger, this trick has no use."
Lyra's smile vanished, feeling a little defeated, "Either you guys disappear without a trace or show up scaring me half to death. If it weren't for my quick wit, I would be dead already!"
"Don't say such discouraging things," Jack's gentle but serious voice came from the other end.
Lyra pouted, "But it's true."
Her anger hadn't faded yet, "You replaced me with someone who looks exactly like me without even a warning. What do you want to do?"
After a brief silence, Jack said, "I agreed with Gregory's plan."
Lyra glanced at Gregory lying on the ground, unable to move, only his eyes rolling around.
