Lyra Smith looked at the dishes, her appetite growing, but she couldn't start eating since the host hadn't picked up his chopsticks yet. She understood the rules.
Morris Jackson saw her eagerness and said, "You eat first; I'm not very hungry."
"Do you really intend to just watch me eat?" It would be even more embarrassing for Lyra if that was the case.
"Just eat." Morris picked up his chopsticks and began serving her food.
Each time Lyra wanted to say thank you, she would catch a glimpse of Morris, and the words would get stuck in her throat. It was clear he didn't like her being so formal.
Morris did serve her food, but after just one bite, he didn't eat anymore.
Suddenly, Lyra's EQ kicked in. Using the serving chopsticks, she picked up some food, and under Morris's watchful gaze, she bravely placed the food in his bowl while forcing a smile, "Uncle Morris, you should eat too."
Morris probably didn't expect such a reciprocal gesture from her and was somewhat surprised.
