Jane spoke as she wrapped Sophia Jackson in her coat and helped her stand up.
Sophia had been sitting for too long. When she stood up, she found it difficult to walk because her legs were numb.
She had trouble standing, leaning heavily on Jane's arm, and Jane steadied her. "I've been talking for so long, but I haven't asked, when did you arrive?"
Sophia answered in a low voice that Jane had to strain to hear. "This afternoon."
Jane's eyes widened. "So you've been here all afternoon."
Sophia simply hummed in agreement.
Jane's eyes grew even wider. "How long has it been raining? You've been out in it for that long?"
This time, Sophia didn't say anything. Her face looked pale, and she appeared extremely miserable.
Jane didn't seem to mind the rain, but she frowned at the indifferent Frank and said, "What are you standing there for? Bring the umbrella over."
