As Lyra listened through the door, she could only hear soft voices and could barely make out the conversation's contents.

The other man's voice seemed to be deliberately altered.
As she listened, the room suddenly went silent.
Feeling something was wrong, Lyra turned and ran.
There was a sound of a door opening behind her, and she heard someone shout, "Stop her!" without daring to look back.

She eavesdropped on something she shouldn't have.
Lyra quickly found her way down the stairs, remembering the layout of the second floor. As her high heels hindered her steps and almost twisted her ankle, she took them off, and her figure disappeared with a clatter.
"Where's she gone?"
"How did she vanish in the blink of an eye?"
