Chapter 2 - a man who who is a beast

Once upon a time, there was an old man who lived in a small village. He was a recluse, and people whispered that he was a beast who had been sent to kill someone in the village. One day, a young girl named Alice knocked on his door. The old man opened the door a crack, and peered out at her with suspicion. "What do you want?" he growled. Alice smiled sweetly and held up a basket of bread. "I just wanted to bring you some food," she said. The old man's eyes widened in surprise, and he opened the door a little wider. "Why would you do that?" he asked. "Everyone in the village says you're a beast. They say you've been sent here to kill someone." Alice's smile didn't falter. "Well, I don't believe them," she said. "I think everyone deserves a chance to prove themselves. I'm going to prove that you're not a beast." The old man looked at her in disbelief. "You're very brave," he said. "Or very foolish."Alice simply smiled and held out the basket of bread. "Please, just take it," she said. "I don't want you to go hungry." After a moment's hesitation, the old man took the basket. "Thank you," he said gruffly. And with that, Alice turned and left. She came back the next day, and the next, always bringing the old man food. And slowly, something began to change. The old man started to smile more. He began to talk to Alice, and tell her stories. He became a different person entirely. One day, Alice heard a rumor in the village. The people were saying that the old man had killed someone, just as they had always suspected. Alice knew that couldn't be true, but she couldn't help but worry. She rushed to the old man's house, and found him outside, staring up at the sky. "What's wrong?" she asked. The old man shook his head. "I don't know what to do," he said. "I've been accused of murder, and I don't know how to prove my innocence."Alice thought for a moment, and then she smiled. "Come with me," she said, and took the old man's hand. They walked together to the village square, where all the people were gathered. Alice stood in the center of the square and called for everyone's attention. "I want to share a story with you," she said. "A story about kindness and forgiveness, and the power of second chances." The people listened as Alice told the story of the old man and how she had befriended him. By the end, not a single person believed the old man was a beast.
