Chereads / The Last Pendragon / Chapter 16 - Nightingale

Chapter 16 - Nightingale

I was dumbfounded.

Her ability was really the best. Because she could fight multiple opponents at a time, from a distance, and her opponents would have no chance of closing in on her, and wouldn't be able to defend themselves from her multiple blades.

Ellen stretched out her right hand, with her palm open. And one of her chained daggers floated down, and made a deep cut on her palm, then floated towards me.

I mimicked her gesture, and the dagger made a deep cut in my right palm too. Then she took my palm in hers, in form of a handshake, with our injuries touching, and our blood mixing and dripping to the floor.

"I, Ellen DiCaprio, will never betray you... I will always fight alongside you, and will always be by your side when needed" Ellen said with a serious tone.

"So shall it be" I replied with a serious tone too.

"Hey! You're supposed to repeat what I said" she retorted.

"Rule number one of working with me, never trust anyone" I said with a smirk.

Our injuries had already healed, and the convent was already made. She swore her loyalty to me, but as the protagonist, I don't think I should be swearing my loyalty to my all my underlings... Don't you think?

"Whatever... Just promise me you wouldn't ditch me when you become the ruler of the night?" She asked.

"I won't... As long as we'll have the same goal in mind, okay?" I said with a smile.

"And what's your goal?" She asked curiously.

"Like you said... To be the ruler of the night" I said with an evil grin.

Ellen beamed a cute smile, and suddenly leaped on me, and planted her lips on mine.

Her action surprised me, but didn't stun me. So I began sucking at her lips which she delivered to mine... Michael wasn't my close buddy, so I wasn't feeling bad at tasting his princess, besides, the dead can't complain.

Kissing Ellen, was way... different, from kissing Elena. Elena was an amateur, who had her first kiss with me, but Ellen... Was just too good at what she does.

Ellen suddenly withdrew her lips and looked me in the eye. "Aren't you feeling bad at kissing me, because of Elena?" She asked curiously.

"Nope..." I replied sincerely.

"Weirdly same with me... I don't feel bad at kissing you, because of Michael" she muttered, and looked to be in deep thoughts.

"Don't sweat it, it's because we're meant for each other" I said, with a naughty grin.

"You think I'm your dumb girlfriend...?" she scoffed and stood up. "We're late, let's go" she said, and picked up her luggages.

"Come on, a little more fun wouldn't hurt" I called out lazily.

-

"Good evening, I'm here to sign up for the novice parade" I said to a familiar elven receptionist, who was behind the counter.

"Hey! I know you... What really happened at the arena last time?" the elven lady asked with a warm smile.

"Good evening, I'm here to sign up for the novice parade" I repeated, with a forced smile.

"Ooh... I believe you don't have a stronghold ID... A drop of blood on this... And this, would do" she said, while pulling out a sheet of written contract, and passed a black card to me.

"Uhmm... Shouldn't you give me like a pin or something, to prick my thumb for blood" I asked.

"Hey! I know you... What really happened at the arena last time?" The elven lady repeated her first words, with a mischievous smile.

"Ahh... I see" I nodded with a knowing smile, and bit my thumb open with my teeth, crudely. And let my blood drop on the black card and the written contract, without even reading it.

My full name, date of birth, and rank, magically got inscribed on the card. With a small picture of me, biting my thumb open, by the side. On seeing the picture on my ID, I began laughing bitterly, with the the elven lady beaming a self appreciative smile.

"You think you're funny, huh?" I said and grabbed the written contract from the counter, and walked away angrily.

"Go make me proud boy!" The receptionist echoed to me.

I didn't reply and headed straight for the portal gate to stronghold one, which is also where Ellen was waiting for me.

"Took longer than supposed" Ellen commented when she saw me.

"Had a little chat with an old friend" I replied simply, and handed my contract to a knight who was standing by the gate.

After confirming the legitimacy of the contract, the knight grabbed my right hand, and swiped his thumb on my wrist. And a black tattoo painfully got inscribed on my wrist, 'S75101'.

The knight then opened the small silver gate, and beyond it was a colourful portal, which I stepped into it, followed closely by Ellen, and stepped out on the other side, which was the adventurer's guild of stronghold one.

It felt like I had step into a mirror universe, because the interior design and settings of the adventurer's guild in stronghold seventy five, was exactly the same with the adventurer's guild here.

The only difference was the luxuriously dressed teenagers, pompously carrying themselves around, and bullying the teenagers who were just arriving to their stronghold.

"Hey! What are you staring at? Didn't you mama teach you not to stare at strangers?" A human boy suddenly screamed out.

*Silence*

The entire hall instantly fell silent, as everyone looked towards the source of the drama, which was about to play out.

"I'm sorry, I just found you cute" An elven girl who the human boy had screamed at, apologized meekly.

she looked so cute and adorable, that everyone in hall felt like beating up the human boy, for raising his voice at her.

"Ooh, I'm sorry then... What's your name?" The human boy asked with a naughty smirk.

"Nightingale. I'm a bard, who loves the feeling of entertaining the audience with my song, shall I sing you a song?" The elven girl asked sweetly, with a shy smile.

"I'd love that..." The human boy replied, and licked his lips.

As the elven cutie inhaled deeply to sing her song, I suddenly felt my heart tighten, which was a high level danger alert.
